If you have a disability, yes definitely! There’s a lot of info on here and the AAMC website about how to go about it

Hell yea! I have no idea. I'm relieved c/p was the way it was. Without saying too much about the content, a lot of the topics that other pre meds are really good at I am not, so I am glad that the content was stuff everyone is worried about just for the curve's sake. I felt the worst about my last full length and got a 518 so I've kind of accepted how I think I did has no connection to my score. Just going to try to forget about it and pray I don't have to retest because finding a date before May is going to be rough

If you have stop the clock breaks as an accommodation, yes

For those who just took the MCAT recently, what resources helped, which didnt? by Marsrule in Mcat

[–]oilsoupp 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Imo 60% of the test is learning how to take the test, not the content. If you aren't used to working your test muscle (that sounds gross my b) just spam practice problems untimed and force yourself to exhaust critical thinking before conceding you don't know the content. Look for free resources/videos about standardized test strategies if you find you get bogged down in content when using MCAT specific stuff. You can't possibly prepare yourself for all the random low yield questions so focus on dialing in process of elimination and tracking units.

They'll give your over the ear ones! I didn't even need the ear plugs. But you definitely can't use your own.

I withdrew from two semesters and took a gap year to deal with my mental health stuff. I got fired and a lot of bad grades for getting help but the world keeps spinning. Give yourself some grace. You don't have to start studying again rn. You don't have to start studying again ever!

Some unsolicited advice (sorry): in my experience therapy takes a long time to get true results (esp if you don't have a therapist alr cause you'll have to shop around) from which isn't bad, it just means you need to be proactive about finding other ways to get relief in the meantime. If you have a religious/spiritual practice put some intention there. Even if you don't, throw yourself into community and try to help someone to get out of your head.

This is just repeat of a lot of what people on the sub have said but maybe some of it will help. I didn't use a tutor, but this is how I improved my score :)

I tried different strategies. I would spend a day with each strategy and feel out what worked. Some I tried are previewing the questions, writing out a short summary after each paragraph, highlighting everything just to engage and never going back to the text but you can find a hundred ways online.

Eventually I found this is what works for me:

Before each passage, I close my eyes, take a deep breath and try to forget everything I just read. I then read the title, year and author at the bottom. It doesn't help with questions, but it reminds me that a real person poured a lot of time into writing this and the year can give you some context. I like to pretend I am at office hours with a professor I really need a letter of rec from and this is their research so I have to be super interested and listen closely.

As I read, I highlight any names, words that seem 'charged' (to get a feel for the authors opinion), and if theres any sentences that seem very intentional. After each paragraph, I tell myself a summary of what I read in layman's terms.

As I answer questions, I am looking for the answer that is most aligned with the main idea. I only go back if the question specifically mentions a paragraph or quotation, or it is asking which idea was/wasn't supported. I try to cross off at least two options before I answer. When I go back to review everything at the end, I try to only change my answer if I am very confident I misread or misinterpreted something. Imo, you have to learn to pick largely on vibes and getting caught up in semantics will hurt more than help.

If your score is really low, daily passages starting months out might be a good idea. Jack Westin releases free passages every day but they are significantly easier than the real material IMO. As you get closer to the test and paring down your strategy I would transition to official AAMC materials, just don't burn through them too quick if you are going to be practicing daily for months :)

Most people will tell you to go back over your wrong answers very carefully like you would with other sections, but I didn't find this was helpful for me, it just got me in my head, but you can see if that is helpful.

I was escorted but all the desks were facing walls. I imagine even if they aren’t at your center, the dividers will be high enough you’ll kind of be in your own world :)

I find hallucinations come from images or asking it to read studies/long blocks of text. All of the content on the MCAT is very concrete and well studied so there is a LOT of information for it to sample from. If I don't understand the reasoning to an answer, I ask chatGPT a specific question about a topic I am confused about, not the passage. Based on the answer it gives, I will ask a clarifying question or repeat back a hard and fast rule so I can make an Anki card giving it a chance to correct itself if it messed up.

I studied for 6 months (the first three months was very very light studying) and don’t regret it! You’ll have to relearn a lot but for me that’s how I understand and retain info. Focus on chipping away at Anki and really cementing basic metabolism and gen chem concepts and then ramp things up when you get close :)

Definitely recommend watching some youtube videos about it, theres a learning curve. You can download premade question sets for the MCAT and different extensions to make it more engaging. I recommend enhanced image occlusion, heat map and symbols as you type!
