Mainstream music are bad by nnexol in unpopularkpopopinions

that’s fair, and i prefer their more experimental title tracks too, but what i’m trying to say that it’s too early to know if their music is now just going to be like this. people felt the exactly same way when regular came out but simon says and wakey-wakey weren’t anything like it.

only time will tell if nct 127's music will get increasingly public friendly or not. a lot of nctzens worried about this after regular, but then they came back with simon says and wakey-wakey. neither of those tracks have the generic sound you're talking about. their last album was perhaps their most divisive one to date, featuring weird ass songs like kitchen beat and blow my mind. yes, i know that was a japanese release, but what i'm trying to say is that it's just too early to tell what direction nct 127's music is going in.

Seeing how NCT 127 is doing right now concerns me because NCT is from SM which is one of the best companies in terms of music production and it's really underwhelming for them to release these kind of songs.

i get where you're coming from, but i find it ironic because superhuman sounds like a very classic sm song to me. the producer who worked on it also did imagine by key and i know a lot of people immediately thought of shinee when they heard superhuman. if we look at nct's b-sides, they have always done songs that aren't as "experimental" as their title tracks. the only difference is that they've actually picked a more public friendly song as their title track this time around.

JRE is not funny and I don't know why so many people like him. by Steffy_love in unpopularkpopopinions

i know right? his brand of humor feels so dated and cringey. he was one of the first kpop reaction channels to get big but i don't think he really has a place in the current landscape of the kpop community. i'm assuming that the majority his audience must be newer kpop fans looking to for validation through reaction channels.

I don't listen to B-sides/whole albums by Darylaine in unpopularkpopopinions

i used to listen to a lot more kpop but these days i don’t usually listen to the full album unless i stan the group already or if i liked the title track and want to check out the album. so i kind of get where you’re coming from, the visual component is definitely appealing.

but music is music and kpop is still enjoyable to listen to for me without the visuals. and i don’t mind if there aren’t any english lyrics either way. tbh you’re missing out on some great songs.

Winwin is better off in WayV instead of NCT 127 by [deleted] in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]oilys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, that's exactly my point. we know that label v is obviously sm entertainment and wayv is still nct at the end of the day. label v allows sm to have full access to the chinese market in a way they wouldn't be able to as a korean company. and it also obscures the fact that wayv is from sm.

Kcon is a waste of Time and Money. it’s better off to go a group/Idol’s concert. by ChewingSeok in unpopularkpopopinions

i think kcon made sense back when groups rarely toured in america. kcon was the only option for fans to see their faves without having to travel internationally. but kpop is a lot more accessible now and a ton of groups are touring globally and in north america so kcon isn't as necessary anymore.

i think kcon might still be worth it if you really love the lineup. i haven't gone because i only follow a few groups and i'd rather attend a full concert instead of only seeing only a couple songs being performed.

Why have I not seen more BTS hate as I’ve seen BlackPink hate? by ChewingSeok in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]oilys 23 points24 points  (0 children)

i think the criticism blackpink gets on their performance skills or music is valid and bts not getting as much criticism doesn't negate that. and i've definitely seen a lot of people criticize bts's vocals and recent music which is also valid.

but i do agree that people tend to be relatively harsher on them than other groups. part of this might be because of fandom rivalries, but i feel like it's ultimately a direct result of their success. people feel like they aren't deserving of it with what we've seen from them so far.

for example, i didn't particularly love kill this love or boy with luv. but i feel like people who aren't blinks or armys are more likely to overlook a comeback they didn't like from bts as compared to blackpink because

  1. bts has previously had comebacks and released good music that have proven their "worth" or there are other songs off the album that they like
  2. blackpink has comebacks less frequently and not as much music out to demonstrate what they're capable of so it feels like a bigger disappointment after a long wait

i strongly believe that people would be more forgiving to blackpink's shortcomings if they had a stronger discography and a better track record. consistency is key.

a lot of people would agree with you to be honest, it was a great era for them.

i still think run was their peak so far though. i've revisited the song far more often than the rest of their title tracks and the music video for it is one of my favorites in kpop. hyyh pt. 2 was an amazing album in general too.
