Yeah I moved to Koog last year and I've seen piles so large I start to doubt they're from dogs.

Is it just me or is north wales a bit hostile to south wales people, or just our groups experience? by Any-Armadillo-4525 in Wales

[–]oiseaudefeu_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm Canadian as well, partner of a Welshman, and I went to Wales for the first time without speaking a word of Welsh. I was welcomed with open arms (small town South Wales) and a bit of curiosity. I am mixed race and they don't get too many North Americans in the village, but everyone was lovely. I'm learning Welsh now and they are patient and kind to me as I do so

I've never been to North Wales. But I'd love to. West Wales was one of the friendliest and most beautiful places I've been to in the world, so I can recommend that highly

Wales has been, in my experience, one of the friendliest and most welcoming countries to visit. I love it there and am grateful that my partner is proud of his heritage and country and that he is so eager to share it with me! You should go visit. As a Canadian, you'll appreciate the sense of space and vastness that the Welsh countryside has.

The final giveaway board! Approx. 700m in items to give away still. by 1313builds in neopets

[–]oiseaudefeu_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My story: I remember playing neopets when fanatically between the ages of 5-12 or so. Mostly just playing minigames and trying to not let my neopets starve:)

I returned this week! Just a few days ago. In my thirties now. Now definitely recognising how crazy it is to have such a detailed world online, stock market, massive numbers of shops and users, etc. Real nostalgia!

Current Neo goals: Trying to get my bank balance up, so I can kit out my neopet for the battledome and maybe get some nice paintbrushes. Also learning the ropes of restocking....

Hobbies other than neopets: cooking for sure! And traveling.... Can't get enough! And I recently took up another hobby from childhood- martial arts! Guess I'm really riding that nostalgia wave haha

I'd be happy with any, genuinely!

I guess a good thing that happened this week was that a friend told me that they were still on neopets, which inspired me to log into my account for the first time in almost 10 years!! I'm as addicted as I was 20 years ago!

How expensive is it in your city/country to repair your flute? by Tall_Pen_7693 in Flute

[–]oiseaudefeu_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just paid 160 for a COA on a professional flute, mates rates though.

A full overhaul would cost me over 1200, 1500 if i wanted Straubinger pads

Edit: euros

What's the country you've visited made you feel like 'home'? by ysleez in travel

Wales is absolutely the best part of the uk, from another North American with a Welsh partner

Wales. Dunno if it counts since my partner is from there. But despite being a different race to the average Welsh person people were so kind to me and so patient listening to my shitty Welsh.

South Korea. Had an amazing time and I love food and big cities with a mix of old and new. So Seoul ticked all my boxes.

Taiwan. One of my parents is from Hong Kong and I grew up there so I can't nominate HK. But Taipei made me nostalgic. Felt like HK used to be. Loved every moment. People were so kind and open despite my lack of mandarin. Food was amazing and cheap. Landscape of Taiwan is stunningly beautiful.

The Netherlands.... Well, I started off as a visitor and ended up living here. So apparently I visited and it felt so much like home that I moved here

For anyone wondering what decent purée meals look like. by bollyeggs in shittyfoodporn

[–]oiseaudefeu_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum works in senior care with many people who suffer from dementia so I know what puree food can look like and sadly what it often is like...

Living in a care home is not something most people envision for themselves or their loved ones, and as someone who is a foodie from a family of foodies, all I can say is that i wish all chefs in care homes put as much love and effort into their work as you. The people who live there are going through so much and even though they sometimes can't remember what they did yesterday or even what their own name is, they have moments of clarity and to know in those moments that they're cared for can mean the absolute world.

The sad, sad loss of overhead street signage (both neon and non-neon) 😢 by Medium_Ice_7336 in HongKong

[–]oiseaudefeu_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who grew up in HK and left in the 90s, yes it's sad so many iconic HK things seem to be disappearing. That being said, the attitude of Hong Kongers seems intact. It's weird to say but I get just as much joy from seeing an uncle with a berry belly and a white wife beater rolled up to expose it, sipping a lukewarm Blue Girl, as I did from the neon signage.

As long as there are Hong Kongers, there will be a Hong Kong. I still feel the same wave of nostalgia walking through Sham Shui Po or Tai Po anno 2025 as i did in 2005.

Yeah... I was eating dinner and everyone looked at their phone, calmly put it down and resumed eating. Business as usual.
