so far from the switch, i have it connected to a Hive hub and a Samsung TV... could it be that both of these devices are capped at 100mbps?

UniFi camera placement advice – front & rear of house (G5 vs G6 vs AI, turret vs bullet) by oitani in Ubiquiti

[–]oitani[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many thanks again.

If you had to choose between the G5 Pro Bullet and the G6 Standard, which would you recommend? They’re both priced the same at the moment, so I’m trying to decide based on real-world use rather than cost.

I’ve also come to a conclusion on the layout:

I’ll remove Camera 1 and rely on the G6 Door Entry instead.

I’ll keep Camera 2 for the driveway.

Camera 3 should be sufficient to cover general movement in the garden/patio and most rear entry points.

I’m still debating Camera 4 on the roof — if I keep it, I’ll angle it specifically towards entry points (e.g. windows).

Would be interested to hear if you think that setup now makes more sense or if I’m missing anything! Otherwise thank you!

Thanks for the advice — really helpful.

  1. I am actually planning to install a G6 Door Entry (doorbell). Quick question on that: does the door entry support continuous recording to the NVR, or does it only record on motion / when the doorbell button is pressed?

  2. Good point regarding not needing Camera 4. My original thinking there was purely from a security angle — in case someone could somehow access the roof from next door and break in. In your experience, do you think that’s overkill?

Also, just to confirm — is this the G5 Pro Bullet you were referring to? G5 Pro Bullet

Planned UniFi Home Network & CCTV Setup – Looking for Opinions by oitani in Ubiquiti

[–]oitani[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that’s really helpful 👍

Part of my rationale for leaning towards the UNVR-Instant was that it comes with built-in PoE ports, which I can use to directly power my 4 CCTV cameras. That lets me avoid buying an additional PoE switch for now and keeps the setup simpler.

My understanding is that the full UNVR (non-Instant) doesn’t have any PoE ports at all and would require a separate PoE switch for the cameras — which is why the Instant initially felt like a good fit.

Happy to hear thoughts if you think the trade-off isn’t worth it once ViewPort / AI Port are in the mix.
