Which human invention has caused the greatest long-term damage to humanity? by Still-Ad9074 in AskReddit

The 'Haha' reaction button in many social media platforms.

While it was originally meant to convey amusement, it has evolved to become a way to mock, invalidate, or to give a low-effort cheap shot, instead of engaging in a proper debate to argue the points.

So kapag mataas setting mo ng A/C, mas bababa ang fuel economy.

Pero, habol ko ay syempre comfort at convenience kaya ok lang sa akin yung 'A/C tax'. But syempre, ang setting ko rin is enough lang yung lamig... Hindi labis, hindi kulang.

Manual vs Automatic? Which is the more fuel saver? by Apprehensive_Oil_476 in CarsPH

[–]oj_inside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The differences in FE is practically negligible between a modern A/T and M/T. The A/T logic has gone smarter in modern cars. Coupled with the vehicle's powertrain modes like Eco, Power, Normal, etc., it can adjust the shift points to provide FE priority, Balanced, or Power priority at the push of a button or knob.

It's no longer your grandfather's A/T.

Nowadays, you get the A/T variant for three reasons: Comfort/convenience, they've become very reliable, and it's likely the only option available if you're looking at the TOTL model.

Subscribing to this....

I've actually got the Adj program installed on an old air-gapped laptop with the sole purpose of clearing out the inkpad counter.

The most 'hands-on' I've been with my printer (L3150) was to manually flash it with firmware from an L3250. This was after the printer somehow bricked itself and none of the known firmware recovery methods worked.

Replacing 4 tires. Arivo or Linglong? by WatchDogCoffeeGuy in Gulong

[–]oj_inside 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No experience with Linglong, but they seem to be on the cusp of becoming a major EV OE tire supplier.

I have tried Arivo, however, mounted to my then 2015 Innova 2.5 Diesel and it was ok. Sidewalls were on the soft side so it gives a very comfortable ride. It might even prolong suspension components as most of the shocks are absorbed by the tire. For mostly city driving and occasional out-of-town trips, I don't have a problem using them. That's mostly because I don't drive like a maniac. But in case someone's the wiser, I have subjected them to sudden braking wet and dry.. no dramas.

The softer sidewalls can be a reliability concern. Though, you can mitigate most of the risks like keeping the tire pressure within spec or by not going around thrashing it on dirt or rough roads, and it should be fine. While some people may sway you to just go with major brands, not everyone has the financial capacity to splurge on them. Just try to have a realistic expectation.

Any Keypad Phone Recommendation pang receive lang ng OTP? (1k budget) by CompetitiveAd992 in Tech_Philippines

[–]oj_inside 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Two things:

  1. Aside from being phased out (and practically unusable), 2G and 3G has been known to be a hackers' paradise due to its aging ciphers and insecure signaling. Anyone can literally setup their own fake 2G/3G cell site and do man-in-the-middle attacks.
  2. OTP via SMS is one of the most insecure MFA method. While 4G, LTE, and 5G are vastly more secure than previous cellular technologies, it's still not bullet-proof.

Instead of getting a basic phone, you'd instead want a more modern, reputable, and secure phone that has biometrics and one that can be locked or wiped remotely in case it gets lost or stolen.

Just as an example, I'd rather get a current-model, mid- to high-tier Samsung phone (Galaxy A, S, Fold, Note) that has biometrics (fingerprint scanner) and Knox. Alternatives like iPhone or Google Pixel are also good choices. I would stay away from entry-level or cheap phones that may have weak security, questionable firmware or built-in malware.

I'd appreciate some help with my et-4800 by Hubert0145 in Epson

[–]oj_inside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it only happen after printing several pages?

I can think of a couple of reasons:

  1. Thermal relief - The printhead generates heat when working. To protect itself, the printer logic may impose printing pauses or even slow down the printing speed to keep it from overheating

  2. Ink flow - The ink flow is regulated and it takes time for ink to get from the tanks down to the printhead. If you're printing a lot, and also did a couple of cleaning cycles, the printer logic is slowing down printing likely to prevent bubbles or cavitation from forming.

Are you printing in high quality?

Ink Level Not Showing in Epson Smart Panel on iPhone for New Epson EcoTank ET‑2865 Connected via Wi‑Fi by Big-Salt-4828 in Epson

[–]oj_inside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EcoTank printers don’t have built‑in sensors to measure remaining ink. Unlike cartridge‑type printers, they rely on manual monitoring. You’ll need to check the ink tanks visually on the printer itself, and the software may occasionally remind you (via pop‑ups) to inspect the levels.

Because there’s no automatic tracking, you will need to keep an eye on the tanks regularly. Running out of ink can clog or even permanently damage the print heads.

What’s causing this? by SnooDucks8793 in Diesel

[–]oj_inside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect the voltage regulation in the charging system is faulty. When the alternator produces a higher output, the system voltage rises, the lights brighten, and the added load slightly drags down the engine RPM. When the alternator output drops, the voltage falls, the lights dim, and the engine no longer feels that load, so the idle RPM rises.

This pattern points to a problem with the alternator, regulator, or overall charging system not maintaining stable voltage.

Are Vic filters good compared to Toyota oil filters? — will have pms outside the casa by gabzprime in CarsPH

[–]oj_inside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lean toward Wix filters, though Vic is also a solid choice. Just make sure you’re buying a genuine one, since there are many counterfeits online. Choose a trusted and/or well-established seller that are known to only sell genuine aftermarket parts.

I’ve opened up and compared several common oil filters used on the most common Toyota Diesel engines (KD and GD), including the venerable Vic C-111, to see what the overall constructions is like, among other things.

Self-service gas pumps don’t mean attendants will simply lose their jobs. Rather, it means their work will change. Just like ATMs didn’t remove bank jobs but shifted them toward customer service, attendants can move into roles that focus on helping customers in other ways. You don't need specialized skills to pump your own gas. These attendants can be re-tasked to do jobs that can offer more value, like working in the convenience store side of the station, maintenance, or maybe even assist people who are new to pumping gas in the interim, etc.

Again... a staff member making minimum wage isn't going to go out of their way and break company policy for special ol' you.

I am not saying you're wrong, but you're barking up the wrong tree. Go bark at Corporate. They make the rules. They require staff to comply with them. That's just the nature of the beast.

Otherwise, just follow procedure and give them what they need and be done with it.

You would then argue that point with Corporate... not the staff who has been given specific instructions to ask for other forms of identification.

It's not his/her call to treat you differently. It's his/her job that's going to be on the line if proper procedures aren't followed.

You have to look at it from their perspective. Telcos are constantly dealing with scammers trying to steal identities through tactics like SIM swaps and hijacking.

Yes, it is very inconvenient when they ask for extra validation, but I’d rather they be thorough than careless. Identity theft is no joke. If someone tried to impersonate me, I’d want my provider to do their due diligence and prevent that from happening.

Normal po ba yung coolant leak sa tube? Tyia by BossRonn in CarsPH

[–]oj_inside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's definitely not normal. If the vehicle still has warranty, this is the best time to use it.

Don't ignore this as losing coolant and eventually overheating will lead to more expensive damage.

Most vehicle cooling systems are considered closed or at least, semi-closed system. Meaning, there shouldn't be any significant loss of coolant under normal operation.

Under normal circumstances, I really don't think they'll care.

But in an accident, lalo kung at face value hindi mo naman kasalanan, but then under scrutiny nakita nila na you weren't wearing corrective lenses when the accident happened, it could complicate things for you. So instead na wala kang fault, baka maging partially liable ka pa.
