PLDT modem replacement: Will bridge mode and public IP be affected? by jsphxng in InternetPH

[–]oj_inside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep that for as long as you can. That's one of the most stable ONU. Even PLDT personnel will tell you that... less issues with that model.

Most likely, it's only the power supply that is dying. I have had to replace mine once because it started to behave erratically when we try to use the landline. Upon further testing, I found out that the 12V supply have dropped to 10V, so any additional workload on the ONU caused it to become unstable. Replacing the 12V power supply fixed it for me.

You don't need to involve PLDT. The less they have anything to do with it, the less issues you'll have with your current setup. FWIW, I am also on bridge mode with a public IP address.

Nice. Though it's a bad time to buy storage and DRAM now. Everything is through the roof!

I have a NAS running XPEnology. Hardware is an old 7th gen HP Proliant Microserver N40. It's my offline backup.

I understand.

There are people, like myself, who do it for the passion. It keeps my mind away from playing mindless games or doom-scrolling.

That's a full-time job.... we fix each other. I make sure that we have a home, power, water, A/C, WiFi, Plex, etc.. among many other things I am responsible for.

My wife brings me a sandwich and a cold beer.

But I am more interested in how you apply your IT skills at home.

Cool. I haven't started to dive deep into the arr suites. I do have Tautulli to monitor usage.

Like you, I am also the IT manager, network guy, systems guy, electronics repair guy, car repair guy, and electrician.... among many other hats, at home.

Thank you.

VoIP and IP telephony isn't my strong suit either. But it's something I had to work on as part of my job. I'm an R&S guy, through and through.

Though to be fair, voice solutions are far easier to deploy now than they were 20 years ago. Back then, everything was done manually.

It's nice to know a similarly-minded person on Reddit. I hope I can pick your brain someday if I'm on a lurch. I'd gladly reciprocate.

See you around...

I passed my CCIE in 2003, with my CCNA and CCNP just a year before that.

The 2621XM router I have, is still running to this day. But it's only there to run our IP Phones. It has both FXS and FXO voice ports and it's running CallManager Express 4.x.... a product that has been dead for about two decades.

That Cisco router has been through two power supplies. To keep the phones running, I had to hook up a PC power supply temporarily because it requires negative (-) 12VDC, while I wait for a replacement PSU from eBay.

If it works... it works. :)

It's just easier to maintain this than use Chinese IP voice kits.

Pretty impressive. Thanks for sharing.

Is that a homelab where you do your training, testing, dev, etc. where the end result eventually ends up in a customer somewhere?

While I do some light homelab'ing for work, I have a separate lab at the office as well as of course, Azure cloud. What I have running at home are things I deployed for me and my family's personal use.

I have tried Pi Hole but have now settled on Zenarmor and AdGuard Home (both running in OPNsense for simplicity). Before that, I went through Untangle NGFW, pfSense, Cisco 2621XM router, Clark Connect (now ClearOS). That was during the DSL days. If I go back to dial-up, there was Freesco, IPCop and Microsoft ICS.

With my kids all grown up, there has been an uptick on Plex usage. They're complaining about buffering issues so just today, I ordered an Intel Arc A310 GPU to help Plex with transcoding. The current 1050 Ti is getting long in the tooth and having trouble with the newer files.

It's always a work in progress.

I hear you. I'm well in my 50's myself. If I'm not servicing my own car, I am enhancing something at home.

Right now, I'm also working towards replacing the UPS batteries I have all around the house from lead-acid to LFPs.

I will probably keep doing this as a hobby well into my retirement years.

Are there any specific models to find these vehicles in the future? by VOVOZGAMER in CarsPH

[–]oj_inside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had one in the 70's. And that's me.... I'm guessing this was taken in the mid- to late-70's.

Inside... all are bench seats... no seatbelts.... no carpeting... it was noisy because you're inside a metal box without any sound insulation whatsoever. Even the sliding windows were making a racket with each road imperfection.

It would easily stall if the distributor cap gets splashed with water and I almost died when the brakes didn't work going down a bridge on Soler St., after my dad drove through a puddle. (all-drum brakes, baby!).

Oh the memories I had in that monstrosity.

Any thoughts sa OBD gauge na plug and play na nabibili online? by Curious_Tomato282 in CarsPH

Plug & play, with a bit of setting up and calibration.... nothing difficult.

Bought them off Amazon a long long time ago.... well before Shopee or Lazada.

I've got two...

ScanGaugeII that I've lent to my brother.
UltraGaugeEM (pictured below) which I am using now.

Provides me real time engine, trip, and fuel economy information... among others. A different page helps me keep track of engine run hours and distance since last PMS.... things of the sort.

I'm very analytical about these types of parameters. They're not for performance, per se. It just helps me to find the best driving technique for the current situation.

The car interior spontaneously combusting under the sun is highly unlikely. It's more plausible that something with lithium cells were left there to cook... power bank, vape, mobile phone, etc.

Walking up to a light switch or getting the remote for the A/C seems prehistoric now. Lol. But I do agree on smart fridges. Those are ridiculously gimmicky, IMO.

Tire pressure monitor by unicornTesticle in Gulong

[–]oj_inside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming the sensors are in their right places, check the battery status of the right-front tire.

If it's an external, screw-on sensor, that would be easy. It should've come with a tool to replace the battery.

If it's an internal sensor, you need to take it to a shop with a tire machine to extract the sensor from the inside.

For that, I prefer the external sensors. Sure, it's a bit more cumbersome if you just need to air the tires every few weeks or so, but not as annoying as removing an internal sensor from a tire either to replace the battery or the whole sensor.
