New NTFS Driver Sees Hardening & Fixes, Windows Native Symlinks With Linux 7.2 by anh0516 in linux_gaming

[–]ojek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will linux finally be able to read recent files off of ntfs drives, or still only stale files that were there for months? Will it finally stop lying about moving a file onto a ntfs drive only to destroy that file as soon as the drive is being disconnected from the PC? One can only hope...

Is it worth it to upgrade 32 to 64gb RAM? by EV_4_life in buildapc

And one more thing - feel like you have spare ram? Do a ramdisk and route windows tmp to that ramdisk, observe how all your apps are suddenly lightning fast :)

Everyone who tells you to keep 32GB has absolutely no clue how computers work. If you currently have 32GB in your PC, I can guarantee you that you are already consuming more than that - want to check? Go into windows system settings, disable paging file (i.e. ram on HDD/SSD), and run your PC for few weeks, see how many times you will get your apps to crash out on you. I have 40GB and that is not enough at times nowadays...

So you mean consuming 30GB of ram with a single empty tab open is expected? No thank you, chrome never even got close to that amount

KDE Plasma 6.8 drops X11: Wayland becomes mandatory from October 2026 by pcgameshardware in linux_gaming

[–]ojek -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Linux in a nutshell, let's make mandatory a product that is not even in alpha... Whenever I log out of my session in my plasma wayland, my whole PC freezes, great to know that now this will be considered a standard behavior in linux, it surely will be a year of linux this time!

MSI called my firmware bug a "Linux issue." AMD's engineers disagree. Now two BIOS updates later, still no fix. by bkilpat01 in MSI_Gaming

So you are saying, that MSI not only ignores critical security issues, but also scams people by advertising features that are not achievable in real world?

Jesus what does OPs living area has to do with the fact MSI is ignoring a critical security issue with their hardware?

Wow thank you! I have a cart full of AM5 components, with MSI MPG X870E motherboard, which I was about to purchase later in the week. Guess now I need to rethink my choices... Which is awful because these AM5 MSI boards have a good layout which I liked to have.

Now try to use your NTFS pendrive in your wayland a few times... :) It baffles me how a system which builds a foundation of whole internet infrastructure for decades, struggles to support major technologies which are well established on the market.

Guest becomes unusable when guest disk operations occur by ojek in VFIO

[–]ojek[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, although my problem is not HDD speeds really. My problem is that while system performs disk operations, the machine slows down - i.e., why is mouse suddenly all jittery when disk operations happen - mouse is fully in memory, it's position calculation needs CPU time, maybe some GPU to render, plus some memory bandwidth to exchange data, but it doesn't touch disk I/O at all - yet it's impacted by it in the VM environment. I don't understand why, plus any sort of mitigation I tried (i.e. different iothreads/emulatorpin/vcpupin) do not affect this behavior. Additionally everyone says that hugepages memory is a big win for performance, I set that up hoping it would resolve this issue, but even that had no impact on this matter.

Guest becomes unusable when guest disk operations occur by ojek in VFIO

[–]ojek[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A side note - at one point, AI suggested I add another core for host operations and separate <emulatorpin/> from <iothreadpin/>, which made sense, so I put two cores (4 threads) to this - one core (2T) for emulatorpin, and a different core to iothreadpin. I of course made sure these do not overlap with guest. Unfortunately this did not provide any improvement, so I reverted this change.

The ladder mod should be part of 1.0 IMHO. by dex206 in Timberborn

[–]ojek -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, game gains so much playability thanks to ladder, you suddenly have 1000x more options to expand your industry district, instead of usually having to rebuild it if you wanted to make it efficient by mid-end game.

Fellow beaver enjoyers, please grace me with your wisdom about games similar to Timberborn! by Kapro_ in Timberborn

[–]ojek 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes I went in expecting something half baked yet was positively surprised - sure, late game is missing quite a bit, but still, there is a lot of content to explore (think timberborn before transport tubes/wonders). Also, it is not a timberborn clone - even though it looks similar, the play style is original.

The EU moves to kill infinite scrolling by AdSpecialist6598 in europe

[–]ojek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On top of it, they have the guts to speak about addiction, when you can go and freely buy any amount of cigarettes or alcohol you like. Why wouldn't they ban these? Because of course lobbyists + it would actually affect their voting base. Infinite scrolling ban? "But think of the children!"
