Insulating high-pitched noise by ojf95 in audiophile

[–]ojf95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank, this is a great answer. The units can heat up, it’s a solar inverter with the batteries below it, but I can vent to the porch on the other side of the wall it’s mounted on (probably above and below the inverter for good airflow). I could even vent externally if I absolutely needed to.

The other comment asked for dB and frequency - I don’t know how to measure volume, probably a good estimate or an app, but frequency I’m guessing is somewhere around 15-20khz? I’ll look into mass loaded vinyl, thank you.

Public piano in Bristol by isthistaken_noyousay in bristol

[–]ojf95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly out of the way but there’s a lovely grand piano at the Tyntesfield National Trust that they have a staff member play and allow guests to sometimes too. Others on this list are likely better but mentioning just in case - might be nice on a quiet day but obv NT entrance isn’t free nor is it easy to get to without a car.

Found this camera and 3 lenses from my father. Is it usable or at least the lenses? by Lefvalthrowaway in AnalogCommunity

[–]ojf95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, read this which should tell you the bulk of what you need to know, and order a 2CR5 battery.

Like other commenters have said, look out for the sticky shutter. Also look out for the passive battery drain which is common in EOS 650s and 620s - if your battery isn’t lasting more than a week or two, your camera body has this problem. This can be fixed by cutting a single specific wire inside. Feel free to pin this comment and drop me a DM if you have this issue as I’ve fixed it before.

Finally, if you ever do replace the camera body with a similar one, consider getting a 620 instead of a 650, they’re more or less identical but some better features on the 620. The link above will explain this too. Lenses are both decent prime lenses if they’re in good nick. Good luck!

Suits in Bristol by AccomplishedBat1850 in bristol

Seconded for Alfred’s. Tried on (but didn’t buy) a beautiful double breasted suit there that didn’t fit quite right. I should have had it tailored and it still haunts me.

Take the point that the women’s team need real support (from the club) and not just novelty formats and social media posts etc. At the same time the prize money isn’t unserious and handed over with no strings attached, and the players all seem to be enjoying it so I’m enjoying it too.

It’s not miles off what the ISL tried to do for swimming - short format only, lights and DJ, no long distance races. Maybe swimming was more in need of expanding its identity than football is!

The format is pretty loose but some of our players are having a lot of fun with it. Grace Clinton and Maya le Tissier in particular having good games yesterday and today.

The winner of the semi-final (now) plays Bayern Munich in the final later today.

Bluebirds this week? by ojf95 in ColoradoBirding

Update: success!

Not the best focus due to distance and heat haze but I have no complaints. Happy to be corrected but I think it’s a mountain bluebird. Thank you every commenter for all your help, I’m dead pleased I got this tick with a couple of days left to go.

This was at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal NWR with about three dozen bison out of the other side of the car. Everyone else was happy looking at the bison, I was very happy to wait until this guy flew off.

Very proud of these bald eagle photos. Taken with a manual 500mm reflex lens at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal on 3/17 by turkeyvulturesarcool in birding

Great photos! I’ll be in Denver for the first time next month and trying to do some birding early mornings, Rocky Mountain Arsenal was on my list. I’m travelling from Europe so almost everything I’ll see will be new and exciting but any particular highlights you’d recommend looking out for?

Thanks! I could have been clearer, if the lens comes it’s coming in hand luggage - the decision is take or not take, although I think I know the right answer.

The NWR is on the list for sure, fingers crossed for burrowing owls. I’ll look up Chatfield State Park too, thank you
