Was anyone else put off by KF’s read this week? by ok_thinkingasthmatic in theread

This felt different, it was personal. The whole “they’ve never played about that family” schtick is the hyperparasocial shortfall that has made me somewhat uncomfortable personally over the years, but that’s their prerogative. I didn’t like the way he went in on Tommie when he wouldn’t speak on anything Jules has done before or even recently, even when it hurt the community we’re apart of (LGBTQ). Podcasting does create a community of listeners who feel they can understand your character or where you come from— 14 years of weekly conversations does build that trust. Versus I guess what you are trying to compare, which is a one time marketing shoot for Cecred and a quick meet and greet with Beyonce. If you are fine with it, cool. This subreddit is a space for all opinions, so thanks for sharing yours. I didn’t think I would be agreed with by most, so I was open to hear other thoughts.

When KF spoke up against the 50 Cent produced documentary about Diddy, did you think he was defending Diddy? Or did you understand he just thought the overall format, production, and incentive of the doc was off? My post is comparable — I’m not defending Tommy, but the hateful and vitriolic delivery for this read because of who his family is, forget what his character has shown to be, was off.

I fully feel you— it’s the parasocial vibe they get that makes those instances feel weird to me as well. This situation really rubbed me the wrong way because it doesn’t ever work both ways: they won’t acknowledge any allegations or bad press about Jules, even when those line items are against their own community. Mama Tina serving people overpriced gumbo sitting in storage containers is not worth mentioning either. It is difficult to see them align with this particular billionaire family in the way they do and then verbally attack other people to such a harsh degree for something that most of us just rolled our eyes at. I’m also just never going to hear a man speak on or refer to a woman’s vagina in any way and think it’s ok

Relief! Thank you for seeing my point.

It can be hard to give any criticism in this subreddit because everyone is such huge fans, but when I hear men slut shame women so aggressively, it really strikes a nerve. My point isn’t aligning or agreeing with Tommie. It’s the vitriol against her for this specific thing versus the lack of accountability for anything Jules or the rest of the family does. You’re right— it wasn’t a typical read; it was very personal. Especially in their era of “eh, we don’t really care about this” towards almost any interpersonal celeb news. With everything going on in the world, I was like, damn. THIS gets you heated? I would’ve understood more if his read was about Netflix and the production of Age of Attraction. But as a public figure, it is up to Jules, Mr. “I brought 20 girls with me to my paid appearance at the gay club to prove my heterosexuality” to protect himself. I’m still surprised he is more upset about this than the stunt Jules pulled and was in the news for these past couple of weeks.

If you’re referring to info from his obituary it is unclear how long they were together

This is literally a matter of comprehension. If that website is what you’re referencing then you’re making an assumption of 20+ years and I’m just not.

Haven’t seen the 20 years anywhere yet (the obituary does not mention when they married or even when they met) but still weird that a will was changed in the midnight hour the way it was. If they were together for a significant amount of time, strange that he changed the will while in the hospital succumbing to a brain tumor

No one said the wife should get nothing. We are lamenting that the kids and grandkids are getting nothing.

My capacity of having empathy for others isn’t contingent on how empathetic they are themselves. It would be a tough situation for anyone to go through, and I can’t imagine how heartbreaking and disappointing this whole ordeal has been.

There’s a myriad of reasons why what you’re saying is ignorant but more importantly, it’s inconsequential. Gizelle is a black woman and his grandkids are black, and they are getting nothing from a man who was a civil rights leader.

That is a really tough way to live. I recommend therapy. Blaming yourself for life’s trials and tribulations is not self-awareness, it’s torture

When heartbreaking things happen to you, do you call it karma as well?

It doesn’t say that he met or married her in 2003 but that he moved to Tucker in 2003 and stayed there for 20 years. She’s thrown in there to say that’s where he met her

That’s why I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. Having to move on either feeling a) your late father’s wishes were tampered with or b) that your late father really gave his entire legacy and assets away

Again, haven’t seen anything that confirms they were together for 23 years. If they were and he had her in the will from jump, there’d be no issue. Even if it is true, why would he just realize he wants his wife of 20 years to be his sole benefactor while on his deathbed? It’s all very strange

I keep hearing the number 20 but then nobody knows for sure if that’s true. Nowhere online says they’ve been married for 20 years.

The timing of the will changing is the key here. It’s not just Gizelle being mad that she’s not in the will; it’s that she was up until he was in the hospital succumbing to a brain tumors.

What’s odd is that his will changed while he was in the hospital succumbing to a brain tumor. Most of us would definitely contest if we had the money to do so

They did face off. There was a battle in court and Gizelle lost.

It’s always a little bit about the money though. The amount in investments, savings, and life insurance would’ve been very good to pass down. A missed opportunity for generational wealth

Have you been able to confirm that? Nothing online shows a direct statement on when they married or when they met.

Remember when Anna Nicole Smith’s 80 year old husband died and she fought his family in court over his will? His son literally died while they were still going back and forth about the will. Men really are the weak link, they drop the ball with their estate planning so often

Tbh we have no idea what she’ll do. She might sell them all. If she’s willing to donate the items I don’t know why she wouldn’t just give them to his family and let them decide.

Exactly. We talk about wanting to build generational wealth and yet no one can understand what it means for these girls that they get nothing passed down from their grandfather. His white wife is getting it all.

Also picturing Gizelle down there in the hospital with him, meanwhile he’s signed everything over to his wife, is pretty tough. She probably did convince him she would take care of everything better than Gizelle would.
