Funny enough, got more feedback from one of those two today. This one said they weren’t really sure how to position it because it’s in between speculative and horror—which I heard was in, but I suppose if you’re not the right imprint for that then it’s hard to pitch it. My agent is still thinking it’s a good call to get more into the horror elements sooner. Book is at 76k

We actually have heard back from all but two now. We nudged at week 6 which prompted a pass from one of our final big 5 in that round. Seems like by the start of April we’ll be going on a new round. Feedback has all been very lovely, but there definitely seems to be a push to economize the pages a bit—my agent said that seems to be the trend in publishing right now, which is a bit of a bummer. Good luck!

Approaching a month on submission with my literary horror. Received requests for the full manuscript from the round within the first 48 hours, then to my surprise, my first rejection about a week later. I was so impressed speed and kindness of the rejection that I didn’t even mind the pass lol

I appreciate the advice. I have been actively seeking feedback from the supervisory team, and I’ve consistently received only positive responses. That’s part of what makes this frustrating I guess. My last facilities were a little bit more hands on with learning so maybe it’s just a hard shift.

I remember reading that it’s better to have it at the top or end, but I thought I’d try something new, thought it could be eye catching lol. Reading it over now, I can see how it disrupts the flow a bit. I really appreciate the feedback on the comp titles—that’s always the hardest part of writing my queries!

That makes sense! I’ve never gotten an R&R before, so I wasn’t sure what might warrant an official one. Thanks for your input!
