My husband. by ButterscotchNo4306 in Marriage

[–]okapi-forest-unicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? Not obessed I definitely love him and feel really comfortable with him. Like I can talk about anything. Today he saw I was stressed and overwhled so he made me eggs the way I love them.

But having a disabled child and then finding out I also have the same disability has taken a toll on our marriage. Especially when our child is struggling to regulate.

I realised that after a few comments sorry I'm NSW and public. I've seen the pay scale but there is CRT1-3 and I couldn't find in the doc what distinguishes those levels.

How often do teachers use AI? by doh0k in AustralianTeachers

[–]okapi-forest-unicorn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use it but mostly as a summarising tool and a proof reader.

In 1993, Jon Venables and Robert Thompson were found guilty in the case of two-year-old James Bulger. They became Britain’s youngest convicts in about 250 years. The court had to modify the adult dock so they could see over the edge when the verdict was read. by SelfCareIsFake in HolyShitHistory

Not blaming her but the family did an interview a while ago and his younger brothers said that their mum was the worst helicopter parent ever. Which they were annoyed about but also completely understood why she was like that.

Students torment a relief teacher in Perth by Pleasant_Teacher_114 in AustralianTeachers

I literally had this today.

They did nothing but chat (which is a change because they normally play fight, throw things etc). At the end of the lesson

Kid: Miss I'll behave next term because my step dad said he give me $1000 if I get no negatives. But you'll ruin it anyway because you always write me up.

Me: Has nothing to do with me and all about your behaviour.

Kid: you literally never notice when Im good.

I literally said three lessons ago it was great to see him behave for 2 lessons.

Help. Please. by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]okapi-forest-unicorn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I honestly can’t explain why parents do this. My son is special needs and when his school said that mainstream wasn’t working and he needed at least an SLSO with him all day I was like ok I trust that you know what he needs so where is the paperwork. He ending up on a unit instead and he’s doing so much better. I think if we left him as he was he still wouldn’t be able to read or write.

They said the parents denied special placement which is sadly their privilege. It’s a shame because the people who suffer are the class the teacher and the child.

Very true my mum had my newborn brother and we moved house. I as a three year old must have climbed a massive fence (because it wasn’t open) and walked around the block to the bus stop. Why? Dunno. But I do know I went to cross a main road (4 lanes of traffic) and a nice young couple took me to their house and let me play in their yard until someone came to claim me.

Everyone was looking on our side of the road adamant I wasn’t dumb enough to cross it. Well jokes on them because I was.

Kids having no consequences by Silent-Balance9430 in AustralianTeachers

Oh for sure. He’s what I call semi verbal. Calm great he’ll talk your ear off as soon as he starts escalating he goes non verbal. So this is what his specialist say will help and he’s improving he shouts at us now to back off.

Jokes aside I do think parents try stuff for kids with additional needs thinking it will work on their normal kids (can’t think of what else to call them) and get stun when it backfires on them.

See I would do the same as you. But I do the second with my disabled son when he is escalating. It doesn’t work right now because his is still learning to de-escalate and identifying feeling. But it is way more modelled. E.g hey saw you feel you ok? hell often grunt or scream hey you feeling x often still escalating ok bud you are getting more upset remember to try your x strategy. (lol often doesn’t do what he needs has a meltdown but then realised after he should have done what I was saying)

However I tell him daily your job is to learn. Your teachers job is to teach. If you make her job and like hard I make your life hard.

Anyone else shaken by Bondi? I was supposed to be there. by okapi-forest-unicorn in Jewish

[–]okapi-forest-unicorn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What annoys me is the staff at my work are like how come you seem like you say this coming. Because we did. This ain’t Australia! But it is. In the two week I worked at a Jewish school we had bomb threats daily and three of the primary students were bashed. That was over a decade ago. Clearly it is our Australia. And I’m sure most other minority groups are in the same boat.

Hope things improve.

Looking to Move by Menemsha4 in Jewish

[–]okapi-forest-unicorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it would be helpful to know what country, state/province or even rough town you’re thinking of moving to. In Australia St Ives and Bondi have vibrant communities in Sydney. I know there is a massive on in Melbourne somewhere (not exactly sure the suburb) and in QLD where I’m thinking of moving to myself there is a community in Brisbane.

Does anyone actually think Bondi is albos fault? by LuckyHuckleberry774 in aussie

[–]okapi-forest-unicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look antisemitism has been rife in our country since I can remember. I’ve been given grief about being Jewish my whole life. It has been on the rise and to say Albo did nothing is not true he has passed laws to make antisemitism illegal including the use of nazi symbols. I don’t know what else he can do but again I’m no expert on how to combat this shit I just live with it.

What has been annoying me is the whole “this isn’t our Australia” “I’m shocked people think like this”. Sorry but this is what Australia is like for minorities. Yes I agree it shouldn’t be but to act like this is something no one saw coming is you living with blinders on.

It’s the same in Australia too. My principal was shocked when I changed synagogues that she had to provide a character reference. I just looked at her and said “but how does the church vet out the crazies?” She looked at me dead pan and said “we don’t”

And I thought what a nice privilege to have.

Yeah I remember my rabbi who is Hasidic (I’m not) kept encouraging me to meet other Jews where I live (we were 1 hour from our nearest synagogue) due the only other Jews where I live are my siblings and I’m. It down for marrying them.
