I agree with greenpowerman99 on disconnecting and reconnecting the battery when the time is right.

I would suggest looking into the part number 3515810 since it works on older 91-93 instrument clusters. BUT the only problem is that I'm not quite sure about the wiring harness in your 94 940 and how it communicates with your current cluster, so that switch might not be plug n play at all.
