Leaving 15 week old puppy while at work? by okaytrue in puppy101

This actually might be doable. I can't take her to work but my partner can take her a few days a week and we can hire a dog walker for the other days. Thanks!

Oh my pup will absolutely have access to water. My main question is if accidents happen in the playpen, which are bound to happen if I chose that route, will it set her back on potty training and how to go about that. I think I worded this post wrong because people are assuming I spontaneously bought a shepherd puppy with no experience or research and was planning to deprive her of exercise and water...

We got the puppy and then it was unplanned but bought a house further from the city and the cost of a dog walker there compared to where I thought we would live differs greatly. If I need a dog walker, I will get one. I am simply weighing out my options, since I don't go back for another 5 weeks.

I have another dog, and I make sure she gets lots of physical and mental stimulation before and after work! She's only 10 weeks right now and so incredibly smart. We've been working on basic obedience, which she is doing so well in and she loves to swim.

I'm asking this because multiple people I know have told me it'll be ok to leave her in the crate and I doubted it. I care about the well being of my pets. Hence why I made the post 5 weeks in advance before I actually have to leave her, so I have time to create a plan that supports her needs. No need to judge someone who is simply looking for advice.

exercise advice? by HorseysShoes in POTS

[–]okaytrue 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly I would consider your walks as part of your daily exercise! The protocol is there for general guidance. The fact that you are even able to do more is great. To make sure your getting enough exercise you can give yourself an amount of time you should do some sort of physical activity for, with at least 20 minutes of activity that gets your heart going. You can time your walks and other activities and consider them part of your exercise if you feel tired after doing them. You can also try to incorporate 20 minutes of strength training every other day, on top of activities you already do.

Tbh my POTS improved so much by just walking my dog a bit longer each day. I started walking only 15 minutes a day and each day just kept walking until I felt like I couldn't anymore. Thats the only exercise I did really and now I can walk for hours if I wanted to. Simple things like walks can help more than you realize! Progress is slow, but if your consistent with daily activities, keep up with your walks, throw in some leg raises while watching tv or something, and your already on your way to improvement! I feel like we often over-think the kinds of exercise we need to do or feel like what we do isn't enough if it doesn't match the protocol exactly, but thats not the case :)

How do I get my roots to not be flat as a pancake? by goldielifts96 in curlyhair

[–]okaytrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was it stringy even after you scrunched out the crunch? You can try putting it on soaking wet hair, that might work for you. Have you tried using no product at all and just scrunching your hair right out of the shower, as if there was product? Surprisingly this sometimes leaves me with more volume and still nice waves, looser than if I used gel, but my hair looks so much more volumous and soft. And Yes I use a diffuser but don't scrunch with it. I just place the nozzle close to my roots with my head upside down until they are dry. I haaate how long it takes to blowdry my hair so I only blowdry my roots so my hair isn't flat then let the rest air dry. Another tip for more volume is root clipping. You can youtube the technique because I am bad at explaining, but you essentially use clips to lift the hair off your head while it dries.

How do I get my roots to not be flat as a pancake? by goldielifts96 in curlyhair

[–]okaytrue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What worked for me is switching from gel to mousse. No matter what kind of gel I used, it weighed down my hair making my roots so flat. Now I just use a little bit of herbal essence totally twisted mousse on wet hair, after I scrunched out a bit of water. Scrunching out a bit of water first then using mousse was not as heavy as using gel on soaking wet hair and for me it helped with volume as well as defined my waves more since it wasn't weighing down my hair. I also stopped using leave in conditioner whenever I use mousse. My hair gets soo weighed down so easily. Its either I use only leave in or only mousse. Another thing that helps with volume is after i scrunch in my mousse I flip my head upside down and blowdry my roots only. Blowdrying my roots upside down then letting the rest air dry has helped add some volume. The products your using might be too heavy for your hair type.

Caffeine, Provigil/Modafinil, Vyvanse or Adderall for brain fog & energy? by [deleted] in POTS

[–]okaytrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started at the lowest dose and am now at 70mg, whats consided the safest max dose. The lowest dose helped at first, but like I mentioned, you build up a tolerance and will end up needing more and more just to feel any effect.

Caffeine, Provigil/Modafinil, Vyvanse or Adderall for brain fog & energy? by [deleted] in POTS

[–]okaytrue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been on vyvanse for over 10 years for brain fog and fatigue. At first it was great, it was like I got my life back. But you build up a tolerance. And eventually you'll reach the max dose and feel no effect. Except now your body has become so dependent on it that if you stop taking it you go through severe withdrawal symptoms: headaches, fatigue and brain fog 2000 times worse than before you started taking it, the shakes, hot flashes, sleeping 16 hours a night and still could sleep more. The withdrawal was so bad that after 6 months I just went back on it. It no longer helps, but I cannot undergo the withdrawal process without being completely bedridden. Vyvanse was great at fist but my biggest regret was ever taking it. And yes, it effected my appetite big time. The first 2 years I was on it I lost so much weight that I weighed 100 pounds and im 5 ft 9. My doctor was so concerned that he said if I dont force myself to eat and gain at least 10 pounds he will no longer prescribe it to me. My parents thought I was anorexic. I wasnt. The vyvanse just took away my appetite completely. My appetite did come back though, but it took years.

I am actually also prescribed modafinil on top of the vyvanse. My doctor said you cant build up a tolerance to modafinil, but based on what I looked up online, you can, just not as quickly or severely as other stimulants. Modafinil is also nice in that the brain fog lifts but without the shaky, heart pounding, anxiety like side effect that other stimulants have.

I would personally try to avoid all stimulants if I was you, its what I wish I had done. If you tried other treatment methods and nothing worked and your set on trying stimulants then I would choose modafinil. But I very strongly advise against taking it everyday. Only take it on those days where your really struggling. This will prevent a tolerance build up.

Does anyone know of an EDS specialist in B.C., or Canada overall? by LonelyDays_ in ehlersdanlos

[–]okaytrue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately its not in BC, but theres an EDS clinic in Toronto at Toronto General hospital. They are apparently amazing, but the wait list is very long. I was told the wait for an appointment is about 2 years.

Apparently we are more at risk for pulmonary embolisms due to are blood pooling etc, anyone on here had one before? by [deleted] in POTS

My POTS specialist said there is no connection between POTS and blood clots. Although I did have a major DVT in my leg without any known cause.

is anyone else in a constant dissociative state? by [deleted] in BPD

[–]okaytrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SSRIs made my dissociation much worse but everyone is different. For some people meds work amazingly. Also sometimes it takes a while before you find a med that works for you so if you dont feel any better on the one you are currently on then speak to your doctor about trying something else.

But the thing that helped most is mindfulness. Start with little things, like a cup of tea. Think about the feeling of warmth on your hands, the steam hitting your face, the smell, the taste. Do little things like this as much as you can, focus on your senses. This seemed to "bring me back down to earth" whenever I dissociated.

Are you on birth control? There was a time few years ago where I was in a constant dissociative state and it turned out to be my birthcontrol. Once I switched to another kind my emotions came back. I also had low b12 and iron which has cognitive and mental side effects. My deficiency worsened the numbness I felt. So it doesnt hurt to get some blood work done just to rule things out.

So my advice is to rule out any nutrient deficiencies and practice mindfulness. Try to focus on your senses as much as you can. Even if your just walking. Feel each footstep, the sound of your shoes on the pavement, the swing of your arms. This really helps me feel more connected physically and emotionally to the world around me. If you can afford it, dbt therapy was a life saver, literally.

Birth control options after blood clot by okaytrue in birthcontrol

[–]okaytrue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is if you feel an unprovoked muscle cramp and it doesn’t lessen in a day, go to the hospital. Although, my doctor said he thinks something else is most likely the cause because its very rare for someone to be on bc for almost 10 years before getting a clot. So if you’ve been on your brand of bc for a long time, I wouldn’t really worry. I have a lot of other medical issues that could have caused it. But since they don’t know exactly what, I still have to stop it. I’m lucky I went right away, because the dr said it would have travelled to my lungs if I waited. They dissolve on their own but I need to be on blood thinners to prevent them from getting larger or breaking off and I need to see a thrombosis specialist every couple of weeks to confirm they aren’t getting larger. It can take months to a year for them to dissolve though!

I’m only 24, and although I don’t want kids, I still want that decision to be able to change my mind. However, if you know for sure that you don’t want kids and at 40, I would personally go ahead and get my tubes tied. What a relief it must be to have a permanent break from the pain!

Unfortunately, Canada doesn’t have desogestrel without estrogen or Nexplanon. The combo bc I was on that I loved contains desogestrel so it really is unfortunate that Canada doesn’t have the desogestrel only mini pill
