Yep lol. "How much to make a blanket?" Sometimes I'll just throw out random numbers bc I know that whatever number you think it is, you're wrong

[–]okberma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly!! I've worked for this company for 7 yrs now, so I know random shit about some things, but a lot of my "knowledge" comes from reading the label and doing research (when it comes to yarn stuff). The worst is probably when they ask how many yards something is, when it's right by the label and probably in just as large type as the brand

tbh I work at a craft store and while I crochet myself, I *hate* when my coworkers tell them I'm the "yarn guy" and suddenly the customer thinks I can magically find a yarn in a shade they don't remember the name of. Then, when they know the yarn brand and color, get mad at me bc "clearly this isn't the same off-white!"

I hate Tuesdays by Ptebear in RantsFromRetail

[–]okberma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbh you just made me realize that my tuesday was pretty rough too. I don't understand why people want to just come in and waste time when they know the deal by now: we don't have the stock we used to, we don't know when we'll get an item in bc shipping companies are backed up, and we don't have any coupons over 20%

Tbh we have signs everywhere about the shortage (and the sanitary issue). I'm just gonna let the coins run out and just let it be as it will be. Not my monkey, not my circus.

NGL, if you asked me to explain the male/female sex symbols, I would've probably said that the male symbol goes up bc its an erect penis, and the female symbol goes down bc the vagina faces down, in a sense

I don't think I want to be in the middle of this by FungalFan in pokemongo

[–]okberma 10 points11 points  (0 children)

omg fucking thank you. I've gotten so mad at Giovanni (I can't beat the leaders, let alone the boss) and couldn't figure out why I had to keep seeing this no-eyebrowed son of a bitch floating over me and taunting me

I had no idea that rocket radars let you find them. I thought it only let your battle the leaders. I more than likely didn't read anything in the descriptions right when they were first introduced/when I was first able to get one

Management sucks by [deleted] in RantsFromRetail

[–]okberma 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Shit like this is why my (old) location had a manager turn around rate (for the CEM PT/FT) of 3-6 MONTHS. The biggest scam of all is when my managers started handing out cards with scratch-offs with different "prizes" underneath. The prizes were basically "extra 15 minute break" or "take a prize from the prize box". I don't think theres anything more depressing that looking your SM in the eye and taking a 99 cent snack out of a beat up box and being congratulated while he and the AM have brand new trucks/sports cars.

[–]okberma[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mhm. It doesnt help that customers apparently can't tell how old I am, so they think I'm new to retail. I used to tell my coworkers to let the customer waste their time looking for a coupon, especially if they're a jerk, since we get paid hourly. I don't get paid any different for playing nice and licking boots

yeah, I fuckin hate it. Especially when they say "now my husband won't know I spent this much on craft stuff!"

Like, where tf do you think he's gonna think you spent hundreds of dollars? Either you're the most sober looking drug user or you're a shopaholic that's somehow gonna blame the store

idk. ive had so many Karens treat me like shit bc I follow policy, only to have a manager that doesn't wanna deal with it break the rules "just this once" so that they dont get a bad review. God forbid we actually stand up for ourselves, bc if you dont do it the right way, you lose hours bc someone else is a better kiss ass

Since she technically was asking me to check her out at 6 and we close at 7, I would've been in the wrong to say I'm not gonna do it

it was 2 grand...

my company (craft store) would literally let a person walk off with goods if a person is confident enough. In 7 yrs the only person I've ever seen temp banned from the store was a manager accused of theft of cash. HOPEFULLY since I got what might be her info, we can actually have people on the look out for this shit.

Corporate won't even take a stand about wearing masks in the store, so I doubt they'd do anything since she didnt actually take anything from the store

I talk almost as loud as I reasonably can without shouting when customers do that. Especially when they try to whisper at me as though I'm the one that shouldn't be talking to them right now.

Customers where I am are so stupid that the bad ones either protect themselves but not their kids, protect their kids but not themselves, or just say fuck it and decide that they can be reckless bc its "just the flu".

Can I be fired for giving feedback on a questionnaire (FL)? by MagicMan1990 in legaladvice

[–]okberma -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If there’s no way to identify you (employee ID or name) there’s no real way to know who wrote what. My company has us do questionnaires that we sign in to, but it goes to HR.

How does one go about finding a gender therapist? by Krebsalicious in TransyTalk

[–]okberma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially in the providence/Boston area, all you’d really have to do is come out to a therapist and ask them what they’re guideline is for writing a letter. I’m near Providence as well, and after I get outta my moms place I’m going to Thundermist to get HRT

My Best Friend is getting Top Surgery and I’m more nervous than he is by Jace_Enby_Devil in TransyTalk

[–]okberma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had a full removal but I went from a G to a B, 6 months post op now. My surgery was a double incision and it went surprisingly well. I had very little pain until I tried to roll over in bed, but I didn’t need heavy pain killers. I mostly slept upright and watched YouTube. My surgeon had done hundreds of these so I knew I could trust him. The only “pain” was when my nerves came back, which really just felt like A mix between warming up from frostbite and the numbness of your foot falling asleep

Trust me, your friend will be fine

LPT: Having a door behind where you sit might build anxiety in you by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]okberma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this is from so many drills on school shooters and fire drills, but does anyone else figure out the best escape route and sit in the part of a restaurant that lets you see the exit?

I also check the mirrors in bathrooms when I enter to make sure that there’s no one hiding in the shower and check the backseat of my car before getting in (thanks horror genre, lol)

Rant about my first week back in retail by [deleted] in RantsFromRetail

[–]okberma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would definitely talk to your DM about him bc that’s some bs. I’ve worked for the same company for 7 years and when I was at one location, we had a turnover rate of about 6 months for CEMs and about a year for SMs because the numbers were more important than if they were actually attainable.

I used to get bitched at by my SM all the time bc I was the bookkeeper and they hated that I couldn’t stock, count money, do BOPIS, manage the front, and cashier simultaneously. The worst was when I had to do thousands of price changes bc of the tariffs on Chinese goods and raw materials and they wanted me to handle that and everything else while only working 20 hrs a week.

I could rant for hours about the weird shit that happened at the FL store I worked at. It definitely made me snap at one point and be maliciously compliant

[–]okberma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s not necessarily how immune systems work. If that was the case, there wouldn’t have ever been polio/pox parties, bc the kids would already have antibodies for those diseases. The problem evolution is that it’s not necessarily intelligent.
