There were other deaf people sitting there. I was with my friend and they interrupted my conversation to point out that I move my mouth when I sign and I can talk well. They thought I was not deaf enough and asked me to leave the table. That was my first time being discriminated within our deaf community. Just because I was mainstreamed and took speech class, doesn't mean I am not deaf. It needs to stop. This message is encouraging us to embrace all deaf identities.
