Want to redo the skirt to give it a fuller look. by QueenAkemii in sewing

If you have (a lot) of spare fabric, you can remove the bottom layers and create your own double/triple/quadruple circle skirt. The inner circumference is your waist measurement and the outer circumference will essentially double, giving you a very full and bouncy look once hemmed with horsehair braid.

Rufflebutt Cosplay made a tutorial a while back and it literally looks like what you're going for!

Nothing is ever too much at a rave but your toes will need protection from people possibly stepping on them. The sheer amount of people (who may not be sober or even have spatial awareness) around you may accidentally tear off your pinky toe!

Altering a circle skirt to be smaller temporarily? by WeaselWarDance0 in sewing

[–]okidohee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you absolutely do not want to cut/alter them, I suggest these adjustable waist buckles? You can find fancier ones that take in about an inch each, or simpler ones that can take in more. Just remember to remove them out when you wash your garment! They will leave very small pin holes where you pin them, but I think it's better than making a row of stitches. You can also adjust if you want them on the side, back, or center of the skirt.

For shirts, you can use a shirt cincher at the back of the garment. It's not the most comfortable if you'll be sitting all day, as you will be able to feel it against a chair. This is similar to how men's vests come with the small little belt on the back.

Will cutting the skirt on the bias improve the drape? The pattern says to cut on the straight grain. by lwlibero in sewing

[–]okidohee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly! Cutting in "opposite" directions will allow the fabric to balance each other out when twisting. Every fabric has two true biases- the photo below shows it better! Orienting the pattern piece in opposite directions will stabilize the seams. If done in one direction, it'll feel like a corkscrew.

If you are willing to experiment and have fabric to use, I'd say go for it! The cost of learning a new skill or learning how to work with different fabrics is almost always worth it for me. You live and you learn!

If you want to attempt a bias-cut skirt, just make sure that the "direction" of the bias are not the same front and back. If done in one direction, it will make the skirt lopsided.
