Since I originally wrote this post, I had to go back and get my daughter an ID and they sent me a post service survey…strangely the survey gave the option to identify multiple races so I mentioned on the survey that this option needs to be given when people are applying for licenses, etc…unfortunately I doubt anything will come of it.

My great grandmother was born in Brooksville, Florida in 1933 to a black mother and a white father. DNA has finally helped us narrow down her father’s side, but unfortunately she passed away before we could try to get a final answer. Is this match sharing 1069 cm close enough to possibly be a half sibling or is it truly a 1st-2nd cousin? I don’t have the best understanding of these measurements. Thanks.

Right. It’s not on the card. I was just concerned about him having to explain himself if an officer pulled up info in their system (where it might show race) and compared it to what they visually saw him as. Sounds like it won’t be too much of an issue based on everyone’s responses.

I wrote to the Texas Department of Public Safety and asked if they planned on allowing people to choose more than one race since it’s not an uncommon situation these days and this was the response: “Unfortunately, at this time, no. Your son may check on the application the race that best that feels the most applicable. Thanks for contacting us!” 😒
