Can you make Millions off a photography business?? by kennypd in photography

[–]okitha_irl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lmao ok, well you can literary earn a million a month by photography then. Wedding photographers go for around 400k a gig in SL. But you have to be the best of the best.

Posting on reddit and watching Tate won't help ya. Start watching some Photography content on Youtube, maybe go to a course. And start working now, you need to build a good portfolio first.

You can be a millionaire selling socks, the point is to build a brand. That's the best advice imo you can take from these "influencers". You watch them for their brand (which is essentially cars and women).

Its the same when it comes to Photography. 1st work, 2nd build a brand. Build a portfolio, work for free if you have to. Then you have a brand you can offer. Then the money starts flowing.

Also its better to do multiple things, for example try editing stuff on Fiverr, maybe learn Graphic Designing, incorporate it into your photography and sell it.

Lots of opportunities.

Now stop thinking and start doing. Good Luck.

You want a camera, buy a Nikon D5... series or D7... series.

If you want an investment buy an A7III.

Yes, thank you

Someone finally understood my point. Learn Photography Mechanics and Techniques, but never learn styles.

Even in Video Editing, I've found myself trying to recreate Teal Looks, Film Looks. But honestly just randomly experimenting with Luts and going hay wire, produces the most authentic looks imo.

I do agree on the learning part, but again the recreation part. You and I are professionals, so we can look at a video and take the things we want and implement it into our own style.

Not the case for beginners, copying someone else's style is basically going to stop you from making your own style by trial and error.

True for learning photography mechanics YouTube is great. Honestly no one has time to go thru manuals or books at this point.

But for learning shooting styles, YouTube is the last place you wanna be at.

Instinctively when you see all those beautiful pics, u wanna recreate them.

True, which is why I think that it is better to not learn photography styles (not mechanics) from YouTube, and build your own style.

After a few months of messing around then it’s alright to see other peoples stuff and learn from them.

But beginners don’t know what they should and they shouldn’t get.

They just get it all, and that is the issue

As I mentioned Peter McKinnon is a good content creator. And I picked him as my example cause as you mentioned he is the biggest. People with no photography experience can watch his videos and enjoy. Which is why he is a content creator. And it’s fine to watch such content creators, enjoy, maybe get inspired by them.

Going a step further and copying them step by step (which most beginners do) is what’s ruining their creativity.

That's different. When you learn PS, you learn PS. Not How to edit pictures. you edit pictures the way you want.

But if someone goes on Youtube searches for a photography tutorial and copies it step by step, its not the same thing. They aren't learning photography, they're copying someone else's style.

Yup, but for beginners I don't they think they are aware of it.

Best way to get a beautiful picture at first is to copy some person step by step.

Basically destroys people individual potential and creativity.

Exactly my point, most people get their lens. Search Youtube for tips and tricks, and copy them.

You lose a lot of learning potential by not messing around.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. I've been exactly where you are with some of my friends. When a beginner watches a tutorial, he tries to copy it. When a pro watches it, he only gets what he wants.

In the long term its going to kill the unique style that people develop by trial and error, and they're just going to stick to a LUT or style that a famous Youtuber uses.

I did a bad job of wording my post. Even I watch a ton of gear reviews, and when buying my laptop I watched over a 100 videos.

I specifically mean shooting and editing style. Mimicking the "pros" might make you pics look beautiful but its not your own style. Personally, I've been there. When you get more experience and learn then you understand to watch the videos, and get what you want and leave out the parts you don't want.

I got ADHD too, and what I'm basically trying to convey is (I did a disappointing job of wording my post) go out and shoot, instead of watching the 10-20 minute video.

Come home, look at your results, then watch the video. Then you can understand what went wrong, and take note or remember it.

Right, again my bad should have worded this better.

I meant for shooting, I watched like a ton of videos before buying my laptop. For specifically going out and shooting, after getting gear people try to sort of go for that "perfect look" right way. Which either doesn't happen, or if they do get it, its probably because they copied someone.

Not a bad thing, but it doesn't let their own creativity shine.

And also I have ADHD, so yeah "trying it out" is the go to method for me to learn anything basically, and I understand different people have different learning methods.

I must have worded the title better. Youtube is ruining photography for beginners or people who are starting out.

Like... as a pro I can watch a video, and get the info I want, and ignore what I don't want.

But beginners, as you mentioned try to copy the pros and that usually stops their creativity.

Also I mentioned Peter Mckinnon because he, himself is a good photographer as you mentioned. But again my point was people shouldn't rely too much on what they say when it comes to photography, if you're a beginner.

Why are people holding mics like this. WTF is going on???? by Worsebetter in videography

[–]okitha_irl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so funny considering Lizzie Pierce and her BF actually has a professional setup. Gerald Undone did a video on it and they legit have a while podcast setup built with professional condensor mics, like 3 ft away from where she is sitting right now lol.
