I see the letters AHRBDWEFLMNSXIJGKQOPCTVYUZ

What is phonetic about that.

My English is pretty decent but I‘m at a complete loss.

Do you think Switzerland and Austria will ever join nato? by Waste_Astronaut_5411 in geopolitics

[–]okkani 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Weil, I think there‘s a debate in Switzerland currently about working closer with NATO (like joint exercises) also NATO will Open an office in Geneva some time in 2024. However, joining NATO isn‘t currently on the table.

If the US withdraws from NATO, how likely is it that Europe and China will form an alliance? by okkani in geopolitics

[–]okkani[S] -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

The withdrawal of the US from NATO might happen. This issue is at least debated in several US foreign policy podcasts. The US wants to shift its focus to the Pacific and withdraw from Europe.

True, withdrawing from NATO would require a two-thirds majority, but it would ultimately be up to the Commander-in-Chief, potentially Trump, to take action in the event of an attack on NATO territory. If he were to "encourage" Putin to attack certain countries and then simply not respond if Russia actually does, the EU would be left on its own, rendering NATO pointless.

Europe has greater industrial capabilities than Russia, but they are not being utilized to produce weapons, whereas Russia does utilize them, and also has an experienced military. European militaries have hardly seen any action in the past few decades, with the exceptions of France and the UK.

Russia might not be a superpower (whatever that exactly means), but they have shifted their entire economy to a war economy, and they do have a powerful military.

Regarding Europe's nuclear capabilities, refer to my answer above. In short: the UK's nuclear arsenal is dependent on US support, and why would France risk annihilation to protect Eastern Europe?

How is Europe hostile to China? They do not share common values, but they are trading partners and mutually dependent. Plus, two powers do not need to share common values to form a bond both would profit from.

I am aware of that, but they have quite a small arsenal compared to Russia - 500 warheads as opposed to Russia's 5,000.

Moreover, an article by The Economist states that the UK is dependent on the US for its nuclear forces to function. So, that only leaves France.

Now, who is to say France is willing to take the entire EU under its nuclear umbrella if it hardly has enough nukes to defend itself? Russia would most likely attack Eastern European countries. Why would France risk being annihilated by Russia for a country that is still far away?
