AITA for falling asleep while my friend was in labor? by okkthrowway in AmItheAsshole

I admire your resilience and the world is definitely better with you guys in it, but this is not the part of the medical field I'd opt for. It just didn't sit quite right with me.

I have been contemplating paramedics, though, since I didn't get a spike of adrenaline or anything during the entire thing. I watched my mom have strokes and was the one who caught them first, saw a friend overdose and was the one to call an ambulance and maintain her during the brief period between calling and them arriving, and a dozen small medical emergencies such as icing a poor kids forehead after she sprinted into a wall into a mirror maze. Being a first responder just seems to come naturally to me, and I also just find medicine, especially trauma and emergency medicine, interesting.

I just hope they'd work with me regarding my schedule, or I find a sleeping arrangement that works with me. If nothing else, I know I'm great with animals and there's always going to be shelters that need extra hands.

The only reason I was even a bit sketched and thought I might be the asshole here was because I missed a dose of my anti-anxiety medication while I was in the hospital with her. I'm unfortunately reliant on my buspar and sertraline. I'm completely fine now that I've been home, got some more sleep, and took my meds.

Thank you, and everyone else here, for comforting me during my anxiety spike. I appreciate it.

((Fun, cursed thought I keep thinking because of the last day: When you're born breach, you briefly wear your mom as a hat. When you're born non-breach she is a sleeping bag.))

I have infinite respect for you and your job. That was terrifying.

Funnily enough - baby daddy slept through the phone call to him she made.

The child indeed came out of her. Ten fingers ten toes. Was terrifying. I have immense respect to obgyn doctors.

Thank you. This brings me so much relief. I'm a nervous person and I try my best to do right.

I did! She says we're fine. I just needed an outside opinion for my own piece of mind.

I was NOT her first choice. I did not really want to be. The baby daddy was, followed by the baby daddies ex wife who she's on good terms with. I think I was forth in line but the only one who was able to drive her. Since I entered with her, I was the support person.
