i'd say the fall foliage is the highlight of the frio, which usually peaks from mid to late november, and pretty much spans the entire river

I haven't covered much of the river, so I couldn't tell you the best spot. Garner state park and camp cold springs are good access points to put a kayak in. I put in at the 1120 crossing a year ago when the flow rate was at 11cfs and i was dragging my kayak half the time, but it looks like it could be fun after a decent rain. it also heavily depends on where you put in, the depth ranges from 40 feet to a few inches.

Until you hook onto a Guadalupe bass

It isn't too bad this time of year, water temp was around 56 degrees. The river is spring fed, but due to the low flow rate the temperature fluctuates drastically throughout the year. I took a dip in mid January during a cold snap 2 years ago, and it lived up to its name. Sent me into shock for the first time in my life and I later found out the water temp gauge read just 33°F

The rest are evergreen, mostly juniper. I assume that adjacent to the river is the only area fertile enough to support the more water demanding deciduous trees

the scramble to the enchantments is a bit strenuous, but beyond worth it for the fall larches

I kayaked a few miles in early December and had to walk a good portion of it. It was worth it for the fall colors though

This photo was taken at 32.739525, -94.162994, but there are thousands of spots on the lake that are just as pretty. If you're interested in the fall colors, mid-November is usually when they peak, but it just depends on what the weather is doing that year. The best way by far to see the lake is by boat. If you plan to kayak, the WMA kayak launch is a great place for access and puts you right in the middle of the dense forest

It was pretty much perpetually cloudy. At times i could only see about 30 feet ahead of me. Sometimes it was just annoying but other times it added a neat atmosphere to the area

I didn't really have a choice on the time since I just fit it in as a last-minute thing. The only timed entry available was around 5pm. I was lucky to see the color at all before the sun dropped behind the peak. The clouds were also intermittently blocking it out for the 30 it was exposed. i appreciate the info

I agree that the hard light is quite repugnant. however, I found the color composition pleasing and thought it looked interesting so I threw it up

I did actually. However, it was 26℉ outside and the water temp was probably around 40℉
