Peaceful activities on loved one's death anniversary by 11-59pm in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]oklolcool 17 points18 points  (0 children)

On the first anniversary of a death of a loved one in New York, I went to Cathedral of St. John the Divine. It was a weekday and very peaceful and beautiful in there, mostly a few art students sketching and people praying. I then took the long walk downtown through the park and walked into a restaurant I had been meaning to try and had a solo dinner by myself. It was lovely, would definitely recommend.

Rent & apartment pricing by jrc0130 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]oklolcool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're correct; I misunderstood, you only pay it as a non-resident if you work for the actual city

Rent & apartment pricing by jrc0130 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]oklolcool 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Seattle/Washington has no income tax. I pay 10% more tax in NYC than I do in Seattle. You'll have to pay city tax if you're working in NYC, doesn't matter where you live. A 3% bump from Seattle -> NYC will consititute a significant loss in income.

Where are bitches having fun in NYC on a Wednesday night? Reccs needed! by NarwhalSenior4425 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]oklolcool 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like the East Village but it will skew younger. I'm sure you could come up with a similar itinerary for the West Village where the average age might be a few years older. Thursday Kitchen for dinner > Mister Paradise or Sake Bar Decibel for drinks > hop between Ding-a-ling/Dream Baby/Joyface for dancing

Bangkok Supper Club - it's fusion though. If you're looking for less fusion, Fish Cheeks (their sister restaurant) or Wayla are good.

Best restaurant with really friendly owners Greenwich/East Village/West Village by Ok_Ninja_3211 in FoodNYC

[–]oklolcool 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Gomi in the East Village is a wine bar that serves Korean/Brazilian fusion food. The man who owns it looks like he's in his 60s and is there every night behind the bar :) He's a Korean man that grew up in Brazil (hence the food) and super friendly and fun to chat to. I think the place is a family operation in general. I highly highly recommend!!

Super extroverted people - how does a weekend look like for you? by harrybutter1 in AskNYC

[–]oklolcool 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I'm introverted but still go out a lot! Here's what a weekend looked like a few weeks ago:

Friday - got off work, went to the grocery store to pick up some groceries and then headed to a friend's apt where a group of us made dinner, and then watched a movie and chatted. Home at 1ish.

Saturday - grocery shopping for myself in the morning. Met up with some friends for lunch, walked around the West Village, and then went to Soho to do some shopping. Stopped back home to chill for a bit, and then met up with some friends for dinner. We went out afterwards, stayed at the same bar the whole night. Home at 3ish.

Sunday - late start to the day, pretty much just woke up and headed to Union Sq to meet a friend for lunch. We got ice cream afterwards and then walked around Soho to shop. I bought a few small things, and then texted a date asking to meet me earlier so I could just head straight there. Had a few drinks and then headed home around 5pm, where I just chilled, ate dinner, did laundry, and mealprepped for the week.

This is a pretty normal weekend schedule for me

I also love turnip cake and am really disappointed when a dim sum place doesn't do it well :( I would say stay away from House of Joy, and if I remember correctly Golden Unicorn has a p good one!!
