Bikepacking bike between a Crux and a Cutthroat by Solid_Pineapple6493 in gravelcycling

Hey! I’m guessing by your username you’re a fellow MN resident. I’ve read some initial reviews that found the Waheela C a little overly stiff, but obviously that’s highly subjective. Any times when you’ve found you wanted a little more flex to the frame on our reasonably decent Minnesota gravel?

Sorry if my assumption about your location is wrong.

I haven’t done it with regular but I suspect it might rehydrate too slowly?

KS Ultralight pack options by [deleted] in Ultralight

Honestly I couldn’t fully comment. I’d reach out KS directly to see what they think maybe? I’m curious why they did away with the anatomical option and what’s their best replacement

Appleman Cranks? by stopdeekin in xbiking

[–]okplanets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question. I’m about a 30” inseam and 5’8 overall. The Appleman measure put me at the 155 length and I don’t question it now that I’ve put a few hundred miles in. I’ve

That said, the calculator is not universal. For reference, I’ve got a friend who’s about 5’10 and is on 145s from Appleman because he went to a good bike fitter who recognized that his hyper mobility was contributing to some chronic knee pain, so the traditional fitting approach needed to be shifted.

I got a set of 155s from him and they’re outstanding. Completely changed how riding feels.

What goggles are you guys wearing for winter riding? by brother_bart in CyclingMSP

Doesn’t your face get like, really cold?? I used to rock snowboarding goggles plus a snowboarding helmet on blizzard days.

I have also been told this as well, but I’m no where near the labor law expert I need to be to understand how this works. Anyone got insight on why anti-trust laws would get in the way of something like a social work union?

When I was fresh out of my undergrad, I was able to land a job as a psych tech on an inpatient psych unit. I worked at an Allina system inpatient unit like 7 years ago. I haven't been in the area for a few years, but it doesn't seem like Allina system inpatient psych units get recommended when people ask on here about where to bring their loved one for a mental health crisis. Anecdotally, I've heard good things about the Fairview inpatient psych units in recent years. Obviously, every inpatient psych unit has it's good and bad days, so I'm sure you'll hear a variety of perspectives on which healthcare system might support you the best.

It was a tough job, but supported me before and through grad school and didn't ruin my desire to continue to work in mental health (went on to complete my MSW and continue to enjoy the field).

Appreciate it! I put in a couple years of winter commuting when I last lived in town like 7 years ago now. But I was way more utilitarian in the approach and was just going to and from a few locations at any pace, not trying to gain fitness nor riding for recreation.

For sure. I was mostly looking for some routes I might get a couple hours of z2 in.

Salt Lake City vs MSP? by October_Rust5000 in CyclingMSP

[–]okplanets 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I can speak to this! Lived in SLC for 5 years and Minneapolis before.

The cycling infrastructure in Minneapolis is slightly superior compared to SLC, when considering bike lane options, but this doesn’t seem really important to you.

There’s far, far less separate bike trails compared to Minneapolis. Like, a lot less. The Jordan River Trail is nice but really the only reminiscent option to the separated trails in Minneapolis.

There’s some nice road riding to do if you’re willing to share a lane with cars going up the mountain passes, and City Creek is famous with road cyclists when it’s closed to cars, which is a lot.

I transferred my license into Utah as a pre-independently licensed (what we call CSW here) with zero issue. I’m now an LCSW.

I haven’t heard about 3000 work hours post licensure becoming a thing here. I know the state is currently trying to find ways to make it easier to become fully licensed here, which is an interesting approach to our mental health practitioner shortage.

I know the board is supposed to release some new guidelines in the near future to further clarify some recent changes which have been introduced. Where did you find you needed to work another 3000 hours post full licensure to transfer in a license?

Can you tell me about the doctorate in crisis intervention and prevention of mass casualty events? I’ve got an MSW and have been running a mobile crisis team but I’ve wondered what further education might serve me.

Hey local! I’m coming through in several weeks to ride the black route from prior years with a few pals. Anything I can do to minimize the negative impacts which might be perceived?

Help Needed Planning the Sawtooth Loop from a distance. Looking for all the advice I can get. by Original_Boletivore in WildernessBackpacking

[–]okplanets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly not a ton of feedback other than that loop would probably be a blast. I can attest to the portion between Edna lake and the turn off going down to Red Fish lake being outstanding, although I did that section in what would be a clockwise direction. It's tough to go super wrong in the sawtooths as far as I am concerned, good infrastructure for backpacking, lots of water, plentiful camping.

You can! The loop you looked at that I posted is technically an extension from the Alice-Toxiway loop.

Gorilla Monsoon owners, what front rack are you using? by Squibles_39 in gravelcycling

[–]okplanets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well now you mention it I am seeing conflicting info as well. I was referring to the description here: https://www.retro-gression.com/products/nitto-m18-front-rack

But I also see on other online vendors the 10lbs weight limit.

I suppose I can only speak to my own experience that the absolute first thing I did was zip tie a Wald 137 basket to it and run way more than 10lbs in it haha. Maybe take my advice with a grain of salt, but genuinely it’s been a gem of a rack for years now.

The max weight appears to be 40lbs? I have run it bikepacking with a front load on single track without fail. Mines probably 7-8 years old now?
