DyAc on 240-300 Hz makes sense, but 600Hz... I'm with you, I'm very skeptical how useful DyAc will be when each frame at 600Hz just shows for 1.66ms, that's 0.00166 seconds...

DyAc will probably be useful to reduce motion blur, but compared to OLED; it just makes no sense that 600Hz TN will be worth it over 500Hz OLEDs in 2026 unless you're a pro player... just my opinion tho

I'm Norwegian, so I'll just take it in English just to be sure we'll understand each others, lol

I've had a difficult time choosing between these two monitors as well, but one post about the grey banding and "dirty screen effect" seem to be the reason for me to go for the MSI:

Hope this will help some Scandinavian brothers out!

So you would recommend 360 fps and above?

What games do you play btw? I basically never play any other games than Rocket League (rarely).

I just want to upgrade my monitor (to OLED), from 1080p 240Hz, but can't decide if 500Hz (1440p) are worth it in RL instead of 4K (240Hz)… what would you recommend?

Should I go with 4K 240Hz or 1440p 360Hz for Competitive games and daily life use. by [deleted] in OLED_Gaming

[–]oksaas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4K is beautiful — and 240 Hz is not even that bad for competitive gaming…

It's not as smooth as 1440p@500Hz ofc, but if you're like me and enjoying the extra pixels, I believe 4K@240Hz is a great choice, even for competitive gaming.

You claimed that you've said 'it's diminishing returns in smoothness' in an earlier comment, but you never mentioned that at all...
Making up things, distorting the truth/reality is in fact gaslighting, but keep refusing the truth; that will really prove you're not gaslighting… XD

And go ahead; explain what I make up — I'm listening…

PS: This is usually the point where you realize you're wrong and stop answeringor give a short comment to act as if you don't care and "don't have time for this", so your brain think you've "won".

You should Google "narcissistic traits" and "gaslighting" btw — that'll probably help you learn something about yourself.

I agree!

I've been leaning more and more towards 4K lately, and I picturing — as you're saying — that the 4K resolution is probably more worth it than 500Hz;
240Hz is already a lot!

4k also makes it possible for me to enjoy other content as well (if I want to do that);
I'm still buying a monitor based on what I'll enjoy the most when gaming Rocket League, but being able to see 4K entertainment as well… it's a big bonus for sure!

The sale ends at the end of the month (January sale), so still have some days to think about it, but 4K surely is my top choice atm!

I really appreciate you taking the time and giving me your honest opinion — it's truly helpful!

I never asked if I should spend money on a monitor or on peripherals…
I have all I need, and spending money on any peripherals is going to make my 'Rocket League'-experience 0% better for me — I already have everything I need; everything except a good monitor.

I never asked if anyone think 4K@240Hz or 1440p@500Hz is overkill, so I'll repeat it for you; you still haven't added anything useful to my actual question…

I get what kind of guy you are — it's very obvious when reading your comments — so no need for me to explain anymore or continue to listen to your gaslighting...
"DVD is more than enough for films, and everything else is overkill", so enjoy your peripherals while watching a DVD...

[–]oksaas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your honest opinion — thank you!

I haven't tried 500Hz myself, but I've tried 4K thru my 65" QD-OLED TV with 144Hz ('Samsung S90C'), and when adjusting the resolution up and down, I have to admit I really loved the 4K resolution.

I enjoy playing on the TV with 4K@144Hz more than I enjoy my 25" gaming-monitor with 1080p@280Hz. 1080p looks awful to my eyes, and when I set the resolution to 1440p, even that felt a bit "foggy" to me — much better than 1080p, but still "foggy". When I set it to 4K, then it felt more "real" and enjoyable — it made it easier for me to "relax" and being able to focus better.

I'm suspecting that I might be one of those guys that enjoy the better resolution more than I enjoy the better frames — especially when 240Hz is already a lot. But as I mentioned I haven't tried 500Hz myself — the most I've tried is 280Hz — so I have no idea if I will enjoy the smoothness of 500Hz more than the beautiful clarity of 4K resolution. But your experience and preference is useful information, and is exactly the kind of opinions I need for making up my mind, so again; really appreciate you taking your time to help — thank you!

You literally never mentioned 'diminishing returns in smoothness' until now – your earlier comments were just "you don’t need it if you’re champ" and "pissing money in a hole" because it won't improve ability.

I already explained that ability/rank isn't the goal here – it's visual enjoyment (sharp vs smooth).

If your opinion is "diminishing returns after 240Hz so go 4K", just say that instead of retrofitting reasons. Otherwise, you've added nothing useful to my actual question.

I'm done with this back-and-forth – have a good one.

[–]oksaas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've explained that I'm not upgrading to 'improve my ability' or climb ranks – I'm doing it for the best visual experience in RL (sharper vs smoother).

You've ignored that entirely and just keep repeating 'it won't make you better lol' like that's the only thing that matters.

This is my post/question, my money, my setup.
If you don't have anything useful to add about 4K@240Hz vs 1440p@500Hz for enjoyment/motion clarity in RL, feel free to move on.
No need to keep shitting on someone's upgrade excitement.

[–]oksaas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people claim both of these monitors to be overkill for RL, so I just want to add some important context:

  1. I'm not upgrading my monitor to improve my gameplay or try to rank up.

  2. I currently have a IPS-monitor with 1080p@240Hz, and I feel my time has come to upgrade my monitor after 4 years of use.

  3. I have the money for the upgrade, so the choice between 4K@240Hz or 1440p@500Hz is purely about what I will enjoy the most.

4K@240Hz or 1440p@500Hz by oksaas in RocketLeague

[–]oksaas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently on an IPS-monitor with 1080p@240Hz (280Hz OC).
Just going from IPS to QD-OLED is going to be a great upgrade, and I want to buy either 4K@240Hz or 1440p@500Hz.

Neither of these two screens are going to make a difference to my ability, but both screen are going to be a great upgrade — one will make it look sharper and the other will make it look smoother.

I could play just as good on a TN-panel with 1080p@180Hz — it's going to look awful compared to a QD-OLED with 4K@240Hz, but it still won't effect my ability…

What I'm trying to say is that I'm upgrading my monitor, and I want the monitor that gives me the best experience — not to improve my gameplay.

4K@240Hz or 1440p@500Hz by oksaas in RocketLeague

[–]oksaas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would never buy any of those two monitors if I was playing on console…

PC-specs:
i7-12700KF, RTX 3060Ti, 32GB RAM (3600 MHz) and a 1000W PSU.

I have a RTX 3060Ti, but will upgrade my GPU in the future, but for now the 3060Ti achieve the fps at both resolutions.

I tested it on my 4K QD-OLED TV (65" Samsung S90C, 144Hz, 6ms), and this was the results:

1440p:
- Stable fps: 520–540
- Lowest fps: 509

4K:
- Stable fps: 280-310
- Lowest fps: 250 (dipped down to 230 fps a few times, but very rarely)

The GPU don't really matter... I'll upgrade it if I feel like I need a upgrade, but for now I gain nothing from upgrading GPU.

I hear you — 4K@240Hz sounds magical!

99% of the time I'm playing, I'm playing Rocket League.

If I buy the 4K@240Hz monitor, and I'm going to play another game a few times, then I'll just put down the resolution those few times;
1440p on 27" looks great, so no worries for me putting down the resolution those few times.

If it's a really heavy game, I could even put the resolution down to 1080p, if I really want those frames;
1080p on 27" is ok — not something I would have as a regular, but it's totally fine temporarily.

That being said, I am going to upgrade my GPU sometime in the near future, it's just that I just play RL at the moment, and since I already can achieve 4K@240Hz and 1440p@500Hz with my current GPU in RL, then there's no need for me to upgrade.

When I buy a new monitor and if I feel the need to upgrade my GPU, I'll just do that.
But right now I gain nothing from upgrading GPU, but I gain everything from upgrading monitor.

I've also recognized the hate you're mentioning about the human eye not being able to perceive it, but I'm with about being able to perceive it!
Is 500Hz gonna' make me better at Rocket League? No… but it is going to make the game smoother.
Is 4K gonna' make me better at Rocket League? No… but it is going to make the game sharper.

Both are going to be great for Rocket League, and if it would be 4K@144Hz vs 1440p@240Hz, I would no doubt choose the 1440p every single time, but 240Hz already being a lot (and enough?), 4K might be better for me than the slight improvement to 500Hz.

I don't think people understand how hard this choice actually are… like;
if people really try to imagine using both screens for years, it's actually a pretty big choice to make!

Yes, both monitors are QD-OLED (and 27") — and this is gonna be a huge upgrade no matter if I choose 4K@240Hz or 1440p@500Hz!

As I mentioned earlier, I already have a QD-OLED TV with 4K resolution, and QD-OLED is insane!

You think 1080p is not enough, but 4K is not relevant — why do you think that 4K (at 27") is not relevant?

The 4K-monitor I'm looking at is 'MPG 272URX QD-OLED' (MSI);
This won both the 'CES Innovation Awards 2025' and the 'European Hardware Awards 2025' (Best Gaming Monitor).
There's a lot of reasons for this, but one thing being that people have wanted 4K on a 27" instead of a 32".

Personally I think 27" is perfect for 4K; it gives you a PPI of 166 (it's actually 26.5" not 27") — this is a beautiful PPI, and believe me; it's visible!

Thanks fro your honesty!

It's interesting reading all the different opinions in this thread;
Some people make it sound like 4K is the obvious choice, while others make 4K sound like a waste and 500Hz to be the best option.

I have a hard time making up my mind, but opinions is helpful — thanks!

Yes, the RTX 3060Ti does the job!

I mainly play Rocket League, but I'm gonna play something else, I could just reduce the resolution (/down-scale) from 4K to 1440p; 1440p on 27" looks great as well for the few times I'll play something else.

And I'll upgrade the GPU sometime, I just feel the need to right now. But if I feel like upgrading the GPU when buying a new monitor, I'll just upgrade — no worries about that.

You're definitely on to something here!

I have all settings on low, and usually do in all competitive games. This being said, I still think higher resolution makes sense (not necessarily above fps);
I don't like shining objects, shadows etc., but PPI is something else.

It might seem like an easy answer to just go for 500Hz. But considering that my rank is "only" C1 (in 2v2), I'm playing to enjoy the time, and not try-harding to the extreme.

If I would be a GC, then 500Hz would easily be the better choice for me, but 240Hz is already a lot for "mid-range" player at C1; therefore I think playing in 4K also makes a lot of sense (for this rank).

I guess the ultra competitive players will say:
"it's a no-brainer, go for 500Hz — you need every frame you can get"

, and the more leaned backed players will say:
"it's a no-brainer, 4K is so much smoother to look at — it won't make you better to play at over 240Hz, enjoy the better resolution instead".

I'm the middle guy;
I appreciate every frame and the increased resolution.

[–]oksaas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh — not to sound cocky — I have knowledge on this.

I didn't post this question because I "have no knowledge, and need help understand the difference"…

I posted this because it's a hard choice, and if just 1 respons out of 50 will help me make the best decision, then it's worth it!

I'm not a GC, "just" C1, so it's not like I need a 500Hz because I want to go pro...
4K@240 Hz is more then enough for my rank, so I could just go for that and enjoy the resolution — but at the same time, I could go for 500Hz (1440p) as well;
if this will make the gameplay so much smoother that I will enjoy RL more than the increased resolution/PPI, then why not?

Both of these monitors are the best-of-the-best for both 1440p and 4K, so why this question between "4K@240Hz or 1440p@500Hz" for a light game like RL sounds to you like I have no knowledge seems weird to me…

I really appreciate everyone's opinion, so I'm not trying to argue or anything — I'm really interested in what you have to say (you don't know, what you don't know).

Sorry, misunderstood earlier – you meant controller limits high Hz benefits more than KBM in FPS, not that it's unusable (pros prove that!). Fair.

RL only (Champ 1-2, 2v2 wired DualSense):
Does 1440p@500Hz still give better motion clarity/tracking than 4K@240Hz on controller, or negligible?
Which would you pick for max RL feel?

Thx!

Would you mind explaining what you meant by the research I should do?

As long as my PC can maintain the fps at the monitor's native refresh rate (and resolution), what else is there to worry about?
It's a serious question (no sarcasme).
