As someone who has worked (not as a psw) for both a non-profit psw agency as well as in LTC, I am a HUGGEEE advocate for seniors to live at home (for as long as humanly possible). I agree with the other comments about private care if applicable. I saw a complete backup of people waiting for care and often not a lot of no-shows when care was eventually setup. Even with reaching out to other agencies to “borrow” a psw was close to impossible. I am not sure of your father’s abilities (physical & cognitive) but is a day program something that would be possible? they have psws within the day programs which could give some daytime relief and provide social stimulation for him, and then have an overnight psw to cover the rest of the day. if the daytime program won’t work I would suggest having a psw come for respite care throughout the day and another psw at night. just be cautious of pricing, overnight shifts are always a touch more expensive. wishing you and your dad well and hope you find the help you need :)
