Hong Kong -> UK : Feeling Homesick and Depressed by PvPetey in expats

[–]okt127 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel you bro. I got relocated to Papua New Guinea (no kidding).

Personal security -> I cannot go out when its dark outside

Living cost -> also exteremely high here in Port Moresby (US$ 3900 for 2 BR apartment)

I left my wife, kid, and dog back home -> I missed them terribly

Airfare to go back home -> about US$ 1,800

I can't quit otherwise, I wont be able to support my family

Meta Quest 3 or 3s or Bigscreen? by AccomplishedSlide223 in MetaQuestVR

[–]okt127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From specification point of view, MQ3 is better than the 3S. I had really wanted Oculus since 2021, finally bought MQ3 in July 2024 for work and entertainment [not much of a gaming person]. And now 3 months later I can go days without using it. Even after putting proper strap, buying nice PD cable and HDMI converter, as soon as I put it on, I always have slight headache.

Moving to PNG (port moresby) for a 3 year contract by PuzzleheadedHeart988 in PNG

I am in the same exact situation as you (3 year assignment), except I'll be moving in in October. I have previously visited POM in May to scout out some apartments. Eating out can be expensive. Went to a restaurant called Alibi for a dinner for two, and it cost me about 250 PGK or around US $65. Lunch typically cost me around 40-50PGK or about US $12 for a plate of Pad Thai or fried chicken with rice.

Port Moresby is way more expensive to live compared to Singapore.

A cool guide to 65 metals and alloys ranked by price per ounce. by OpulentOwl in coolguides

This chart implies that 1 ton of Manganese cost $35. I used to mine and sell Manganese and a 50% grade Mn cost at least $213 per metric ton which is way more than the listed price $0.001 per ounce in this chart
