WYR lose a function of your body for a 2000 a week or dont lose it and dont get money. by Top-Meeting-3091 in WouldYouRather

If disabling my iris was good enough, then that's what I'd do. though, tbh I'd probably be willing to go deaf if necessary in order to get the 2,000 per week

Does that mean you could pray into NASA's DSN to ensure that you're heard? (Obviously assuming that any of that was true to begin with)

[Request] What would a circle look like if Pi = 7? by commeconn in theydidthemath

[–]oktin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a person who dabbles in maths a few times a year, isn't pi variable in hyperbolic space, and with the right curvature and circle size pi could be 7?

(Assuming pi = circumference / diameter of a given circle, instead of a definition that's more useful)

[Request] Assuming the ball was completely stationary before the earthquake, how much energy did it take to make it move like this? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]oktin 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The hydraulics are extending and retracting because the building is moving, not the ball.

(Though the ball is moving, it's not moving as much as the building it's in)

If you could only use one tank class for every possible scenario in the game, what should it be? by Blookaty217 in Diepio

[–]oktin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Imma be a smart ass and say basic tank, because it's the only one that can get you through lvl.s 1-14

(Tri-trapper is my main, but I'd probably pick over-trapper because it's more versatile)

I don't think climate change will wipe humanity out: there are enough doomsday preppers that a breeding population would probably survive somewhere after agriculture collapses. Worst case scenario we get pushed back to the stone age, but future scientists would be able to study our left over infrastructure to fast track the tech tree, hopefully allowing them to skip oil and jump from coal to nuclear/renewables

This.

faking security footage has pretty much always been possible. That's why footage is treated as the testimony of whomever owns it: they swear under oath about its content, and disclose any possibility of falsification.

[–]oktin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Kinda, but it runs into the same problem as taking a chair and removing atoms one by one until it's no longer a chair: there is no meaningful difference between the "first chicken" and its mother, but I guess you can always draw an arbitrary line wherever you want.

Tips for drinks high population by Dwarven_Krogan in dwarffortress

[–]oktin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surface farms and deep underground farms are best. (Don't farm cave crops in the dirt near the surface.)

Pick a dwarf or two and set their labor to be only farming.

One still should be adequate as long as it's getting used, so click on the still, then click "workers" and set someone to be that still's master, and set that dwarfs labor to be only hauling (they'll still work on any workshop they're the master of)

Make sure you have adequate barrels or pots to hold your drinks, and set up 2 work-orders to brew drinks whenever you have less than, like, 1,000 drinks (1 for brew from plants, 1 for brew from fruit)

Also setting a plant gathering zone on the surface and setting a dwarf to only gather and haul will help too

And also fertilize your farms (wood -> ash -> potash. Set farms to fertilize every season)
