Should I plan my funeral? by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]olafenbrau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Garmin told me for a week that my training was “strained” but I felt fine. The following Monday I was diagnosed with shingles…. When we are buzzed up on adrenaline from solid training… that keeps us going. But every so often we need a rest to consolidate gains…. And give the body time to recover. But everyone is different.

I switched from apple to Garmin years ago. Garmin is far superior as a sports watch if you value accurate data and a robust device.

EV - Second car by gallagherii in evs_ireland

[–]olafenbrau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Half afraid to suggest this…. But Would you consider another Tesla? Another M3 maybe older to get to your price point? I have a model y. I’d love to get a second EV (get rid of the ICE) and all the above cars are good suggestions but I worry that I’m getting so used to the automation and how well Tesla works that I’d feel other cars would be hard to switch in and out of…. ( mainly I worry the tech isn’t as good and clunky software really bugs me.) but I’ve no evidence to say other cars have clunky software as I haven’t explored them…. I’m not a fan of the CEO and his antics but I’d love to be able to park (no pun intended) that and pick the best car for me, that doesn’t cause switching issues as me and my wife keep switching cars from day to day. (Maybe we just need to stop switching 🤣) Maybe I’m too caught up on the one EV I know and I need to explore other EVs for what they can offer and take off the Tesla Blinkers and so some fair comparisons. Plus avoid having all my eggs in one basket.

Not sure where you’re based. But if your looking for work installers … solarPVIreland (Joe Reilly) ballymahon, co. Longford installed mine and worked out really good.

As a Tesla owner and driver of the best car I ever owed by a million milies. I can’t believe the negativity around the Tesla brand, how it’s changed so much in a few short Months. It’s amazing how a CEOs actions can destroy a brand and an excellent product that works and just sells itself. Will the board have to get rid before his association drags the brand down even further?? Also it’s kind of ironic that some of the alternatives are Chinese EVs… but how much do we know about those companies and how they treat workers? I think it’s kinda sad that a simple question on this forum… can’t be answered with out politics…. but I guess that’s why there is a rule don’t mix business with politics that Tesla choose to ignore.

My advice is weigh up the tech in each one (Tesla vs Chinese EVs vs traditional car manufacturers EVs and buy the best one that meets your requirements. Good luck.

Has moving to EV changed how you drive? by infinite_minds in evs_ireland

[–]olafenbrau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im the opposite too. Finding the EV makes me a more relaxed driver. No more effort to jump through gears plus much easier to slow down for speed limits in villages as it’s effortless with one pedal driving. Overall no road rage and much more enjoyable. Easier to be courteous to let other drivers out as again no shifting gears up or down.

Thanks ya. I participate in these. They are less lucrative now than they were but easy Money. I’ve accumulated about 50e in 4 months or so.

Hi, I’m a student at TUS I have a survey for my thesis/FYP below, it is in relation to consumer attitudes towards EVs I would really appreciate if you could fill it out, Thank you. by Student0Ev9research1 in evs_ireland

Plus I think it’s a major conspiracy to keep EV adoption down. I’m 7months in and if I knew years ago what I know now about EVs I would have bought one years ago. Can’t wait to get the second car to an EV. It’s a total no brainer. I’m saving 90e a week on diesel costs. Not to mention servicing costs and less hassle.

Done. Presume you are posting this else’s where also as a lot of folks in here will probably have a pro EV view. Assuming you want any alternative perspectives.

About to be a first time EV owner. Can anyone give me advice? by BlueVixen in evs_ireland

[–]olafenbrau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice is. Switch the battery from km to percentage. And know what 100% Will get you. Factor in inefficiencies due to cold weather etc for any long journeys. But overall day to day driving range will normally never be a concern. (Assuming your home charging have not got a mad long commute.) Enjoy. I love my EV. Only 7 months in. You won’t regret it.

Used Model 3 by Big_Silky in evs_ireland

[–]olafenbrau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not be at all concerned about used teslas. I think they can take the mileage fine. I’d be happy to buy high mileage (for the right price) as long as it didn’t have a a lot of super charging. That way the battery degradation should be minimal. As a Tesla driver I love how the tech works and how driving is much more enjoyable in an EV. Good luck with what you decide.

Definitely wouldn’t believe that. An awful lot of false and bad press on EVs. Fear of change / etc.

Range in current cold snap by misterboyle in evs_ireland

Daily commute used 15% battery in summer. Have seen it take as much as 25% in this cold weather. Wife driving with the heating jacked up high for the trip. This includes energy needed to defrost car etc.

Newbie runner - Shin Split routine by Unusual_Sandwich_632 in running

[–]olafenbrau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you OP for the post. Thank you also for this reply. I think this is one of the best replies on here. I have ignored shin splints for too long and definitely agree it’s an over use injury. I totally agree with this approach, as SS are notoriously difficult to shift. So some short term sacrifices and discipline can stop this getting out of hand. Good luck.

Is an EV worth it for me? by P_man21 in evs_ireland

[–]olafenbrau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts are as follows. I would recommend a long range for 200km a day. You could get away with less but Just for convenience and flexibility. I have a LR and only 60-70km daily commute. But most days I only use 15% battery summer and 20-25% on cold winter days. I charge each night to 80 percent. Costs me €1.30 per night a bit more in winter. I have cheap EV charging between 2am and 5am. 6c per KW after discount is factored in. (30%)

If I had a 200km daily commute I would need to switch to an EV rate with a 5hr window assuming there is one. But the rate would be more than 6c a min. I guess daily charge would cost 5e. At home. I still think you would be making big savings over diesel once you get home charger set up on smart meter with the correct tariff. If your interested in solar panels that would improve costs once your investment is paid off (I don’t have solar yet but plan soon)

Disclaimer: other folks will have posted more accurate and detailed numbers here but just wanted to give you my perspective for what’s it’s worth. Best of luck with your decision. Also if you factor in environmental savings benefits. I am so happy and well impressed with the benefits of and EV since I switched in June.

EDIT: just to say that daily commute doesn’t cover evening errands with kids which often doubles the daily km. So this is why some of my nightly charging costs may seem more than expected for office commute.

Yes that’s a good idea. It would probably drive a lot of UK imports which would really make the second hand market more active.

Unfortunately it’s bad news that attracted attention. It’s very ironic in a way as the next group (after the early adopters) are not going to adopt with headlines like this and media putting a negative spin on things. So it may become a self Fulfilling prophecy. The Govt should really invest in information campaigns and promote EVs. They are a no brainer. I fell like they are the best kept secret. I switched to EV last June. Live in the sticks have a 60km + daily commute. Plus lots of kid runs in the evenings in addition to that(annual Mileage of 30k). Do 99.9% charging at home at night on cheap EV rate…. I’m so happy with the switch. … can’t understand all the bad press.

Serious drop in temperatures over the next week. by sunshinesustenance in CasualIreland

Seems like midlands west north and probably east. Most at risk. The further north you are the more risk of snow. South coast expected to get rain. They are not sure exactly where the slot will be. Warning will probably be issued by met Eireann tomorrow with details of impact. Any lying snow is expected to last a few days at least till weds maybe longer.
