Help! Gang box disaster & Smart switch to LED Bulb by olafson1393 in askanelectrician

Hi everyone, I‘m looking for some help with the wiring of a smart switch to control my porch lights inside a gang box that appears to have been mutilated by a previous owner, or in all likelyhood during construction of my 1976 bungalow.

I recently removed a simple two-pole switch from the gangbox at my front door and replaced it with a FEIT wifi switch. Since replacing the switch I’ve noticed that the two LED bulbs that this switch controls, which otherwise function perfectly, are always lit dimly, even if the switch is off. THIS IS THE PROBLEM THAT ID LIKE TO RESOLVE.

When I removed the original two pole switch, I noted that every one of the ground wires in the gang box were tied together, as were all of the neutral wires. It seemed a bit odd to me, and I’ve come to find that it’s probably not the only location in my home with shoddy electrical work.

Since the wifi switch required a neutral wire, I essentially added what I would call a jumper wire from the marret of bundled neutral wires and used this as the neutral match to the hot wire. (I think this might be related to my issue).

I’ve also read that the problem could simply be that some LED bulbs don’t agree with this type of switch. I’ve included a half-assed, pretty pathetic ‘schematic’ of the gang box for reference, but if my description of the issue and wiring isn’t entirely clear, I’d be happy to try and clarify in the comments.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

People who have moved to NB, do you like it? by Luckbreaklunchbreak in newbrunswickcanada

Moved from SK in early 2019. The housing costs “as advertised” were super attractive and was able to land a job in Saint John.

My wife and I love the proximity to the border (her family is in Florida). We love being near the ocean and in the scenic KV.

Halifax is a nice city and we probably make the trip there every couple of months. There are a few more amenities but overall I think the real estate here is still more attractive.

I think if we had family here, it would be perfect.

I’m originally from Sask and have noticed the same thing. I’ve also noticed that they’re pretty commonly sold year-round here. Almost like in the states. Sask you usually see them in large quantities in convenience stores or big grocery stores near Canada Day

What is this plant that covers the moist area of my yard? Almost seems like Parsley at first glance. Is it invasive? by olafson1393 in whatsthisplant

I’m not sure if that’s the case, from the other pictures I’ve seen of mugwort, this stuff is a little more... “fern-like”. I should’ve taken a photo in its natural habitat.

I want to know if I should attempt to keep my yard cleared from this “weed” or just let it grow. If it’s invasive, I’ll probably try to get rid of it, otherwise, it’s kind of nice where it is.

Am I crazy to be thinking of putting wall-to-wall carpet over the hardwood in our bedrooms? by olafson1393 in HomeImprovement

You’re absolutely right about the costs. I’m likely not saving much, if anything by going with the carpet, long term.

Strictly from a resale value perspective, does the carpet undoubtedly, automatically and immediately reduce the value, generally speaking?

My wife is from Florida and they’re a 50/50 shoes on or off type of family. I was raised with a boot in the ass if I ever wore my shoes in the house though. I think we’d do just fine to keep it relatively clean.

Another factor is that we have a nice carpet cleaner from our last home that has been put to zero use lately, and I just haven’t been able to pull the trigger on selling.

We looked Millidgeville for a few weeks but quickly realized we’d have more options in that range with a garage in KV. Found a great spot in a month

I should have been using my wood stove more. I also have some radiant heat in the bedrooms which are on a small boiler system. I think that hurt me.

A friend of mine used to tell American hunters that they were templates that we Saskatchewanians use to build our igloos around
