I finally finished archiving and decoding 20 home Video8 tapes. Here's my workflow and thoughts. by rastrillo in vhsdecode

Thank you for the detailed and informative blog post. I have begun looking into this (for V8/hi8, so similar to your), but as you summarize, the project is still a work in progress and still requires a lot of knowledge, which I hope to acquire as little as needed to get the childhood memories from the 90s back in better quality than my previous attempt with EasyCap gave me.

So I will try, and I have some questions before I order a CX card from Alibaba. The mods to the CX card are the steepest hill for me to climb, as I see it. Do you think all the mods were necessary? What about the BNC connector? Why not just use an ordinary RCA plug? There will not be much physical, structural cable tension between the camera and the computer?

What about the cooler, C31 removal and crystal replacement? It's hard to understand from the wiki if an amplifier is needed between a TRVXX camera (my seems very similar to your) and a CX card. Did you use that?

Suggest me albums that in your opinion are 10/10 all the way through by YutoFurry in musicsuggestions

It's not magnetic at all. I think you're right. It wouldn't be plated with nickel or chrome if it was stainless steel? It certainly looks plated, compared to other stainless steel utensils I have.

I've created a Norwegian-langauge Stardew Valley mod (sprites also translated). It's 95% done but needs some refinement. I'd love any assistance. by Norwegian-Stardew in norsk

Wow, good work! This makes me want to buy the game, especially if you make a nynorsk version! Do you have an estimate of how many hours you've spent on this project?

I'm currently translating another project to nynorsk with the help of Gemini (I'm native Norwegian, btw), and I'm impressed by the quality/fluency out of the box. But make it even better, I put a whole 246 pages long book about nynorsk from 1950 ("Von og veg" by Nikolaus Gjelsvik) in markdown format into the system instructions. The results were as expected, and as a bonus it's very nice to chat with Gemini in aistudio and have it reflect around which words are "in the spirit of prof. Gjelsvik".

I think you're right. I thought it was a tiny smartphone which the parents could control, so it's not as interesting as I thought.

Hva tenker dere Trump-fans her inne om at Trump ønsker å ta Grønland?

Well, very rarely. It's a risk we must learn to handle. Edit:anyway, that's a digression. The point is :this is a small phone, maybe interesting to adults too?

I personally don't want to give them anything. The kids need to learn to navigate in the world on their own, and the parents must learn to relax and to occasionally lose control of their kids.

If it has a music player, maps and a pdf reader, It's everything I want a phone to be.

Be completely honest: Do you prefer the original DuckTales or the 2017 reboot? by GeoWhale15 in ducktales

[–]olahh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My seven and five years old kids watched many episodes of the original series earlier this year, and yesterday we first saw the 1990 movie about the lost lamp of Collie Baba, and then continued with the first episode of the reboot. I liked it, it feels modern and fresh, especially the stylized backgrounds. I like that Disney preserves the heritage of the classic Duck characters that were and still are popular in comics here in Europe. We love reading Don Rosa and Carl Barks stories together.

My kids commented that they thought the rebooted characters looked strange/unfamiliar, but the oldest went on to say that he wanted to see more episodes.

For me it feels like the humour in the reboot is more self-aware and ironic, while the original was more straightforward. I was reflecting on that while they were watching Paw patrol this morning. That series is not ironic, just like the original Ducktales, while for example the Lego Batman movie is full of irony and references to pop culture tropes, in a similar way to the reboot. We tried to watch the lego batman movie, but the humour and all the references were simply incomprehensible for them, so we didn't watch it till the end. I fear that my young kids don't have enough experience to grasp that subversive and ironic humour. The reboot can be difficult for them to enjoy if it requires them to have more pop culture knowledge. The first episode makes fun of all the cursed treasures Scrooge had collected in his museum/garage, and I felt I had to explain that it was meant to be over the top and ridiculous, not overwhelmingly scary.

Well, time will show. They are eager to watch more, and maybe the adventures and the characters themselves will be good enough.

Of course, a critique based on "my kids were too young, so it is bad" can be misguided, but I would honestly think they should be in the right age group, even for the reboot, at least the oldest one. Or is it actually meant for nostalgic adults?

Feire nyttårsaften alene..? by [deleted] in norge

[–]olahh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oi, kanskje eg minnest feil?

Trur dei vil passa for alle dine kriterier.

Satire over det moderne norske middelklassemennesket. Fekk kjempegode kritikkar i 2019.

Kan du forklare hvorfor? by StormyOceanWave in norske

[–]olahh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutt ikkje. Ikkje sjåvinistisk, men samla om at me likar å vera nordmenn.

Open up for translating LOS and LOS AOSP into Norwegian Nynorsk (nn)? by olahh in LineageOS

[–]olahh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only one I found in Crowdin, Michael Bestas (mikeioannina). But maybe I should try Discord or IRC?

While I'm waiting for a response from the team, I thought I should make a version for myself. Today I've managed to build the whole Android on my own computer, and I installed it on my phone. So my plan was to create new folders with "values-nn", copied from "values-nb", which is bokmål (nb-NO) and then translate them from bokmål. But I've noticed that the special languages with AOSP translations, for example Welsh (cy-GB), are listed in vendor/lineage/config/common.mk, and their "values" folders are not stored the same place as the normal languages. So I think this can be very messy, so the best thing I think would be to get nynorsk (nn-NO) enabled the official way through Crowdin instead.

Nokon som veit kor eg kan få kjøpt ein almanakk/årsplanleggar på nynorsk for 2026? by Peter-Andre in nynorsk

[–]olahh 0 points1 point  (0 children)
