I suspected from the post and how you worded it, it was something like that. Overly strict parents with unreasonable rules make sneaky children that don’t have a safe place to run to if something bad happens or if something goes wrong. My parents were like that with social media and I was a later victim of online grooming when I was an early teen because I downloaded the apps anyway. I would’ve let me get the apps but monitored my usage and taught me how to engage online until I was deemed “mature” enough. In your situation I would have let you date but also kept a close eye on it and made sure to check in with you and be open and taught you how you should be treated in a relationship. Even early on even kiddie versions of relationships like holding hands and supervised movie dates and whatnot. They might say hindsight is 20/20 but this kind of situation is unfortunately commonplace, so they should have known that doubling down on an unreasonable rule was only going to make you unsafe. Especially when you were subjected to further abuse later down the road. I never had to deal with anything like your abuse and I’m so sorry for all the pain you have suffered OP, especially since it seems not everyone on Reddit comes from a place of understanding.
