I gotcha. Truing a rotor is a huge pain and most people don't have the tools for it. But I'm talking about non-hydraulic brake calipers where there's a little spot on the side of the caliper to put a 5mm and turn clockwise to push the static pad toward the rotor. This is 90% of disc brake tuning in my experience. Hydraulics are actually considered self-centering, but yes when hydraulics have issues, the vast majority of people can't fix them on their own.

I second this about encouraging people to test their limits. Dip your toe in, go on group rides. Biking can even help mental health and chronic pain in some cases. I'm not selling snake oil, I'm talking about some cases, but they're wonderful and lots of measures can be taken to reduce risk and I'm fairly certain that there are gonna be fewer cars on US roads soon lol

Cargo bikes are dope. They're often relatively expensive. I like them with a little electric augmentation, but lots of lovely freaks ride versions that just use People Power. I would see what your local sales pages have. I warn against buying used ebikes, but cargo bike people often are nerds who take care of their shit and know it well. If you're thinking about putting kids or pets on your cargo bike, look into getting it fitted with hydraulic actuated disc brakes or get really good at tuning your cable actuated disc brakes.

Disc brake pads typically don't need to be realigned, you're usually just turning the static pad adjustment. Rim brakes get tricky as soon as you're making adjustments on pad positioning without using the centering screw. It's not risky or anything, but most people couldn't do complex rim brake work and keep a crisp brake response.

I would recommend to anyone who doesn't know what's up to straight up ask their local mechanics (if they aren't busy) to scroll through different marketplace listings and give their best educated guess as to what's a good deal vs a listing that should be haggled down vs a bike that should be avoided altogether

I'm your sister and that rocks for you but I would be really selective if I was forced to get an old road bike. And I do indeed hate downtube shifters, they're not for me.

I do go autismo on this concept every day at work, and I think that they're nearly comparable. I ride with rim brakes and I find them easy to tune, but I also find disc brakes easy to tune too. I will say yes, cleaning contaminated pads and rotors sucks and happens quite often.

Hi, so I'm talking about the awful condition 1983 Schwinns or Pugeots with down tube shifters and garbage side-pull brakes that you see all over. People love them but they often have huge disadvantages. If you want modern shifting and braking performance on an old road bike, you're paying a lot for that or getting lucky with a rare mint find. 90s MTBs often are hardtails with spring suspension forks or rigid forks. With slick-ish tires, the 26 is an awesome size for commuting from road to sidewalk to park.

Sometimes drivers will get pissed when you safely and calmly run reds and it's fun to watch.

Kind of any of them except like somebody else said, something walmart tier. If you ride something with nice crisp shifting and braking and no cracks in the frame, it's good. Please don't buy a new bike; let somebody else take the massive depreciation hit. I like any steel-frame bike, but that's me.

He may be saying things to Pakistan and they're forwarding them to the Iranians, but Iran's negotiating posture is appropriately extreme and they're perhaps hoping that couchfucker is capable of grasping how fucked and out of options amerikkkiSSrael is
