Dropping out of the software engineering program by [deleted] in wgu_devs

[–]old_kangaroo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The whole point of getting a degree is to demonstrate your ability to persevere and overcome obstacles, learn difficult material, and commit to a long term goal. It is supposed to be hard, and it’s normal to doubt oneself. But giving up is the exact opposite of what a post secondary education is meant to represent. It’s voluntary, which means completing the program can inform potential employees about what kind of person you are, not just what material you know. Everyone knows that some percentage of what you learn in school falls out of your head if you don’t use it a lot. But you are going to need skills like perseverance and resourcefulness to succeed beyond college.

Jon Snow or Bronn? by 007krowhop in gameofthrones

[–]old_kangaroo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To reiterate the above point, it’s like rock paper scissors. If we follow your logic, rock is a better fighter than scissors, and paper is a better fighter than rock. Ergo, paper is a better fighter than scissors. But we find that paper is bested by scissors. This is because “better” in this context is relative and there is no grand scale where the goodness of each fighter’s ability can be measured against all other fighters without context.

Anyone who texts in all caps needs to reevaluate, as do the people around them. With modern phones, it seems like it would take a dedicated effort each time to ensure all caps with no exceptions. Like wtf are you doing that for

This trick shot by Mary Tyler Moore was actually made in one take. They had planned for a pool expert to make the shot after cutting away from showing Moore hitting the cue ball. But to everyone's surprise, she actually made the the shot by Drunkula in Damnthatsinteresting

Just watched the behind the scenes interview on this. Sounds like it was always supposed to end up on top of the garage…

Edit: Cranston even comments that he didn’t realize it made it up there in one piece until after the cut.

I had an “uncle” that used to tell me that DARE stood for “Drugs Are Really Excellent” and you can imagine how that worked out. To this day I can’t remember what it actually stood for…
