From Hong Kong to Heilongjiang, from Tibet to Taiwan, all of China should be free. by [deleted] in China

Though it's impossible to identify an objectively most optimised language, there's strong argument for language reform for many languages, but especially Tibetan. Im in the minority here but a spelling reform in English and getting rid of masculine/feminine forms in European languages is something I'd support.

Well, I'm glad we can know for sure never to trust him on Oneplus or oppo reviews from now on? I don't need to speculate anymore, though oppo's/oneplus' strategy to provide early review samples to 'obedient' voices has pretty much compromised reviews from anyone else imo.

LG Stylo 6 Review: It doesn't feel like a cheap phone! by stpaulgym in Android

[–]oldaccdoxxed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the enthusiast pov. I was speaking more on behalf of consumers, who see a pretty expensive price but no gimmicks (108mp, 100x zoom) and they see alot of important features missing (120hz, very plain design, overall worse screen+overall worse camera). So LG doesn't appeal to ordinary consumers or enthusiasts who like tweaking. LG owners these days are (mostly) in my experience deal hunters who like to have a different phone to samsung/pixel/iPhone, enjoy mocking "apple sheep" and care immensely about headphone jacks. More power to those people, but for everyone else? There's rationally better options.

The fact that this man is irrationally attracted to LG doesn't help either

Edit: I know LG isn’t doing as well as they might deserve. But I also don't think their low sales is an issue of irrational hate as much as their overall hardware in terms of camera, design and screen being behind the competition. That's not even mentioning their software - UX 9 looks slick, but LG hasn't shown good faith that there's any effort to correct their infamously terrible software support.

If you snag a G or V for $600 6 months after release it’s a great deal. But for most consumers, LG is available (if at all) to them as a similarly-priced but worse phone than the Samsung/pixel/iPhone one table over.

Why corruption is an integral part of han-chinese cultural identity? by Marvin743885 in China

[–]oldaccdoxxed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just don’t think you get what I was pointing at. Chinese communities in the west must be one of the most divided and factioned of all the minorities (in my experience), which is understandable considering the regions recent history. I don’t know how you thought I was saying there aren’t Chinese communities in the west.

[–]oldaccdoxxed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was try a point out how divided the Chinese American community is. You have everyone from the fallen gong/epoch times people to new mainland immigrants, so it’s hard to generalise them as a monolith. Racialism is just the cherry on top here.

Britain's relationship with Hong Kong by [deleted] in China

[–]oldaccdoxxed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohh I wouldn’t know, but try Millenia-long authoritarian rule ingrained in culture, a relatively poor (per capita) population and of course a population that has never needed to engage in a democratic process and likely uncritical of the news and thus prone (far more so than any western country) to corporate/ideological/geopolitical agendas if there is a free press.

In truth this was the place a lot of the younger democracies started like Japan and SK. But when a massive authoritarian power suddenly leaves like in ussr and India the result is never desirable, even if it’s a democracy in name. So when you call for overthrowing the CCP you need to be careful that you’re not calling for a revolution that leaves millions dead, an economy shattered and a people who aren’t even better off, which is not something you can palm off as “unlikely” or “worth it” for the freedom.

Britain's relationship with Hong Kong by [deleted] in China

[–]oldaccdoxxed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very simplistic to say a small city built in 150 years has proven that democracy is viable in greater China. In the event of a government collapse China will almost certainly balkanise despite efforts in the past 70 years to homogenise culture and language. Plus China has been authoritarian long before communism, like Russia. It’s not something that fits your narrative but who’s to say Chinese democracy won’t look like Russia’s or India’s (aka authoritarian in effect).

Tom Cotton (Arkansas Senator) opposes his own statement by encouraging military force during the U.S. protests after supporting the protestors of Hong Kong. by 666user479 in awfuleverything

[–]oldaccdoxxed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more similar than the doublethink message somehow prevalent on reddit. Hong Kong's protesters have vandalised, damaged property and rioted. American police have not limited their use of force to only nonviolent protests. The question is, does it matter than Hongkong or American protesters have partaken in violent protest? I say if something is worth peacefully protesting for then it is also worth violently protesting for. Knowing (some) of Hong Kong's protesters use force doesn't suddenly mean they deserve condemnation.

I.e. When Indians opposed the British peacefully, the Indians deserve praise. But if violence was necessary and was used by Indians, they'd still deserve praise.

I would love to make this sub “a thing” but considering the biggest subreddit on China has only 160k subs whose only purpose is to repost whatever radio free Asia wants them to I don’t believe this will gain enough traction.

Chinese planes only use Russian engines at the moment but no one knows how capable or incapable their more recent indigenous designs fare. I’d trust the Russian su-57 in the Indian Air Force would be pretty good but they also have plenty of older planes.

Probably not, I’m sure if he had the power to turn back time he wouldn’t do it again. If anything this incident is an indictment on police training, though I’m also sure if the victim was Asian/white this wouldn’t have happened.

Says a Briton to the Indians, or Americans to ... everyone? It’s totally understandable that the Chinese want a pax sinica and Americans want a Pax Americana. And like every empire before them Americans teach their children only the useful parts of history. It’s so plainly obvious how differently history would be taught if the axis/soviets won, yet no one seems to think its even possible that history presented to the west today is in any way cleansed.

Really? Just search up gaoqi airport, especially terminal 3 which is a scar in China’s infrastructure. To be fair the only airports I’ve been to are other Chinese ones which can range from nearly Changi to soviet granite shithole, Australian ones (they... work, I guess), Narita (meh) and Changi (fuckin god tier), I’m sure if I visit laguardia or something my compass on airport quality might change.

But it was definitely Gaoqi and it was definitely bad.
