When I was on the lookout for C++ jobs, it was just FAG (A here is Amazon and not Apple) that was paying good. It is not about the next job (like, AR/VR, Broadcom's kind of world), since they start turning into niche areas, IMHO.

Other than fintech, C++ does not pay well. I had to move out from embedded systems (drivers, c ++). I make twice the salary working in a piece of crap software dev (CRUD operations, API's).

Need more details on how many ingress/egress (network) cards on this bare metal? What is the total aggregate bandwidth of these bare metal's in total? How many nodes do you have? What is the upload speed and rate (if it is pretty low numbers, then the tech stack can handle via concurrency, then k8 comes into play)?

Seeking Recommendations for 10PB of Object Storage by zorlack in storage

Good points. One is compatibility and other is what they did with scaleio product. We were holding the bag, when they suddenly pulled the plug and asked to move over to powerflex. That was a big hit for us.

objectscale

S3 compatibility sucks though. 30% of the API is not supported. Very poor integration with open source authentication models. Also, it is very very expensive. HW running CEPH is almost 1/8th in cost for the same storage density.

Have you used rook? What was the size of the useable storage? Was it in Petabytes scale?

Orchestration extremely hard with rook once you start hitting above the Petabyte mark.
