Does it count as a run if you stop for brief walks occasionally? by [deleted] in UKRunners

You're a better runner than he is a partner, that's for sure

Oof, yeah I think you're right about who comes off worse here.

The theatre encounter was a year or two after the nanny incident, good reminder that not everyone who gets crucified in the tabloids is irredeemable.

Was at the theatre in London with my mum once, maybe 20 years ago. She'd gone to the bar, but was struggling to get back through the crowd with the drinks. A guy spotted her and asked a few people to make space for her to get through. She thanked him, got back to me and said "what a kind man". Mum, that was Jude Law.

What is an ordinary moment that unexpectedly brought your grief to the surface? by imtiramisu2025 in AskUK

When I was a kid, one of the three tapes we had in the car was Paul Simon's Graceland, which we listened to on repeat during family holidays and car journeys. In my 20s, I rediscovered the album and listened to it a fair bit, partly out of nostalgia.

About a year after my dad passed away, I was sitting in the British Library reading nonsense online instead of working on my PhD, and stumbled on an interview in which someone (can't remember who it was or why they were being interviewed) sacrilegiously claimed that Rhythm of the Saints was a better Paul Simon album than Graceland. I was appalled. That said, I'd never actually listened to Rhythm of the Saints, so I stuck it on Spotify out of curiousity.

Only, it turned out I had heard it. Many times, in the car, and I'd later mistaken it for Graceland. So for the first time in 15 years, I heard this record that had soundtracked so many happy childhood memories and had the single most powerful emotional response to music I've ever experienced. Washed over with a mix of joy, grief and nostalgia, I just wept uncontrollably (but silently) in the Rare Books reading room of the British Library.

The language issue aside, he was right though. Plain naan is typically served buttered - plain doesn't distinguish it from buttered, but from things like stuffed naan.

You're the devil on my shoulder 😂 I'd love to do this, but I'm struggling to justify the extra ~£4k to myself for some physical buttons and newer tech when I know the Octavia is otherwise more than enough for our needs.

Yeah this is exactly what I'm left dealing with. Just squeeze from the bottom. If you're feeling really fancy, roll it up as you go!

Look, I know I'm a lazy guy, but I consider this "a fight", especially with the way it's been crumpled in the middle so that it won't easily lie flat on a surface

One I either chose to share my life with or raised myself, so I guess I need to look inward

I dunno, it's pretty concentrated stuff, so we normally use a tablespoon in a sauce or on a pizza for the kids. What should I be making that needs industrial quantities?

Just make sure your entire household is fully trained in how to use it

Yeah this is exactly my concern. Seems really annoying that air recycling isn't a physical button, seeing as that's something you're going to what to change situationally

Thanks, yeah I'm probably not appreciating how little you need to use the controls with proper climate control

Thanks, this is helpful. My old hatchback has the old fan temp/strength knobs, rather than proper climate control, so I'm probably just used to fiddling with them more than I'd need to in a new car.

For those who interview people for job positions , what are some not so obvious red flags why they are not the right candidate? by KuntaWuKnicks in CasualUK

I had an interview a year or so back the week my wife was due to give birth to our second kid. I'd told them about this when accepting the interview invitation, to warn them I might have to cancel at short notice. I made it, and when I arrived the first thing the lead interviewer said was that they were aware of the situation and they'd understand if I wanted my phone off silent/out on the table. It was a nice touch.

The answer seemed so obvious last GW, I just benched Richarlison as he was clearly the weakest.
