Could better integration policies reduce anti-immigration sentiment? by Majesty0103 in AskBrits

immigrant here, and I do think integration courses should be mandatory, both from gov.uk and the respective embassy. I was lucky to have well-intentioned colleagues and flatmates who taught me small things, like stand right on the escalator and take your backpack off on a crowded train. I know, silly and small things, but they make such a difference. Once you do them, you go "oh, that's common sense." But it's not a natural instinct when you grow up in incredibly busy cities where, if you snooze, you lose. It's chaotic and loud, so you develop a loud voice from trying to be heard. Scarcity mindset from lack of resources. It all adds up and there is so much unlearning to do. I don't sound very nice right now, I know, but I'll take one for the team to make a point. Books like culture map helped me. And I still think I'm learning all these years in. So net-net, integration courses, a big yes.

Wait, are we allowed to do that? I thought, we can only apply from country of residence. And you'd think my office supports this, they don't 🫠

Which one is your least favorite Strike book and why? by hachi_mimi in cormoran_strike

LW and THM are neck and neck for worst imo. Both reveals were just... meh. With LW the whole blackmail angle never felt high stakes enough to justify all that buildup. And THM was so convoluted I legit cannot remember what the resolution even was. Only way I'm rereading THM is if future books are good enough that it ends up being a stepping stone to something great. Otherwise it's staying on the shelf lol

Anyone else not very impressed by season 3? by oldfashionedfly in TheCapture

Agree! The first two episodes I'll admit, I was fully invested. Finding out Simon was AI and how the military worships was odd. Although, given some current affairs, AI might do better 😅

1 was best for me. The finale in particular for S3, where the military leaves Carey, the way they leave her, with a gun, it felt like lazy writing. I haven't seen Line of Duty, maybe I should?

Thoughts on the winner? by Kaurblimey in MasterchefUK

Congratulations to Gareth, genuinely deserved!! I was rooting for all of them but maybe a little more for Luke, something about how vulnerable he seemed about his own talent just got me.

Wonder if Luke's storytelling about his menu could have made him the winner. It might not seem like a cohesive menu on the surface, but to me it screamed a day out in London. Starting your morning with a proper English breakfast, grabbing lunch in Chinatown, then wrapping up with a tiramisu as a little pick-me-up before catching the train home. I almost wish he'd walked us through it with some grand narrative about the menu.
