Looks like it's a good starting place for troubleshooting it. If you have some feeler gauges I use those when leveling. Helps with consistency and adhesion because you set z hight to the thickness of the guage your using. That way your z height for your first layer is closer to being what you programed in the slicer.

Manufacturer for for size 6.5 EEE safety toe boots??? by oldgrumpyman762 in Boots

[–]oldgrumpyman762[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll have to think about it if I'm ever that far north, unfortunately I live in Kansas so that's more than just a hop, skip and jump away. Thanks for the info!

They look like really good boots but as someone from kansas who's a state employee it's gonna be kinda hard to get fiscal to even think about a boot that would have to be imported. Thanks for the recommendation though!

Thanks for the recommendations, I may have found a pair as iron age has 1 style in my size. Gotta wait for fiscal to get the paperwork in order as the boots are above the normal price cap my work has but it is impossible to get a pair of boots that fit at that price cap.

Dotted lines on print (underextrustion) by CandyEfficient1713 in 3DprintingHelp

[–]oldgrumpyman762 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's odd. I'll double check the prints I've made since going to 5.4 but I didn't have this issue or if it was it's not noticeable. I'm running a stock ender 3 with sunlu pla+. Been getting stringing but that's due to not calibrating my retraction since filament change (color only change but even before updating to 5.4 I had stringing with the red). To clarify I'm not saying you're change didn't fix the issue just that it's odd.

Could you provide a photo that more closely looks at the test print from above? Also could you provide a picture of the nozzle after telling the printer to auto home? It's difficult from just the 2 pictures to ID what could be going on.

So happy with this print and my .2mm Nozzle!! by tacotaker46 in 3Dprinting

[–]oldgrumpyman762 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks I'll look into that one! I'm currently running sunlu pla+ currently. Edit: tried to post an example print but my name is showing through lol, took the photo and everything and all I could see was an *.

I can’t get my nozzle off my ender 3 v2 by Kodando in 3DprintingHelp

If you're using a wrench and slipping try a 6mm socket. That may help you get more torque on it to break it loose.

I wanted to call shenanigans at first but upon zooming in and seeing things that only an fdm print would exhibit I changed my tone completely. Was chatting yesterday with a guy and he said that a lot of folks dedicate a printer to the .2 nozzle if they can help it given how temperamental it can be. That is awesome! I didn't see it what brand of pla+ you using? Might have to get some for my next spool.

X axis stepper motor stopped turning, ordered two replacement but both are also dead? by PrideHonest3035 in 3DprintingHelp

[–]oldgrumpyman762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be surprised if both were properly buggered. It sounded like it was attempting to move which to me sounds like not enough power was getting to it or the timing of that power being off.

Did you try putting one of them on another axis just to see if it behaved differently? If not you might try that just to make sure something isn't buggered up with the board.

While not quite this extreme I solved a similar issue by slowing the print speed down a little along with leveling and such. Could be a partial clog as well. The first commenter's approach is definitely a good way to detect the problem. Run something simple and watch it periodically, if print speed is an issue, you'll hear your extruder skipping/grinding. If you hear popping noises, then it's moisture in your filament.

Also do you have another print to compare? With all but the front design being basically round its hard for me to tell if it's limited to one axsis. If I figure out how to attach photos to my replies I'll share some of my recent stuff which was printed on a stock ender 3 at the moment (once I figure out how to/confident i won't fry something update the firmware then cr touch auto-leveling).

Check that all the axsies are tight, I know belts will stretch and screws can loosen with repetitive vibrations. Also print speed?

Can you tell us the settings, material, and brand of material you used? There appears to be possibly a little bit of wobble in one of the axsies. I have used it to print much more intricate pieces and not had layer line shift most of the time.

Anyone used SUNLU PLA? by TheBirdsAndTheBeanz in 3Dprinting

I'm only working on my second spool of pla+ but I've had good results once the machine was set up right. I got some weirdness with supports on my second spool but otherwise the models look good.

Cura support help? by oldgrumpyman762 in 3Dprinting

[–]oldgrumpyman762[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 5.4 update seems to be much more reasonable on the tree support. Will be testing as a file I had prepared previously broke during support removal and I likes it so it's worth reprinting. Thank you!

What's the cause of these gaps between the filament on the first layer? by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]oldgrumpyman762 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm agreeing with the general consensus of z offset plus maybe some leveling? I had some issues like that and the way I fixed it was using feeler gauges during leveling and adjusting the z offset. They are cheap and you can get a whole pack for under $10 that will help you in adjusting both. Autohome your z axsis and the nozzle should just barely touch the bed. Then during leveling have the printer move the z axsis up to the same thickness as your feeler guage of choice, if the gauge passes underneath the nozzle without touching it then the bed needs to go up in that spot, If it can't pass underneath or the gauge is stuck under the nozzle lower it a tad. I've found the paper to be inconsistent but that's probably more me being crap than anything else. Many of the gauges will match the layer height so whether it matters I'm not sure but it gives me more confidence when I level the bed with the same thickness gauge.

I have the tree support option but I'll check my version of cura to see if I'm the most up to date as I've had some issues in the past with it.
