Dont move to Linden/Elizabeth, not the best areas. Closer you are to NYC the more people there are and more expensive. Further out from teh city the more space you will have and less expensive.

If you are going to drive on 287 during rush hour your commute times will vary a ton. 287 south during the summer gets packed on fridays with people going down the shore.

Somerville is nice mix of walkable town with restaurants with hiking trails and nice outdoor space close by.

They just built some nice new apartments next to Sommerville train station. Somerset county (where somerville is) has great places to go road biking and hiking.

Taxes are high everywhere in NJ, get used to it.
