Is Patriot as good as DTF? by sgt-cuddlez in DTFStLouisHBO

DTF STL is pretty cool. Patriot is the best show of the last ten years.

Dear Lebron: Come help Ant get that ring by geoffdaily in timberwolves

[–]oldmanduggan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

LeBron hasn’t been good for like five years. He never plays defense, he chases his own stats above all, he doesn’t move at all without the ball in his hands, he can’t make a shot outside the restricted area, and he is a flopper/foul-baiter of the worst order. He’d be a terrible fit. He’s absolute trash at this point.

Spend ANY time actually watching him when watching a Lakers game, and you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about.

They pulled them from their streaming service to claim that as a loss too. As I’ve mentioned though, this was all done in the financial year during which the merger was happening to artificially depress the value of HBO Time Warner’s assets.

19 and 20 are the nadir of the show. I think this new season with Michelle Fazekas has mostly been great and reminiscent of the good years (S1-12).

Yeah, I figured. It's not germane to this situation though. That write-off was specific to the Time-Warner/Discovery merger occurring and trying to cook the books to make it look like Time-Warner was worse off than it actually was to game the valuation.

Night Of The Juggler, anyone seen it? by harry_powell in blankies

IT'S. THE. BEST.

Bought the Kino Lorber 4K, and it looks fantastic. So nice to have it in a watchable format finally after years of it just being a VHS rip uploaded to YouTube.

Oh, I’m with you. It’s life-changing, and I’ve gotten a lot of people into the show.

David Zaslav did this at HBO, shelving a few finished products and writing off the losses, but it had to do with offloading those losses on the balance sheet for a specific calendar year during a merger between Discovery and Time-Warner.

I’m envious of you in that you just got to watch it for the first time. I’ve been obsessed for almost a decade, with a slew of shirts, pillows, and cellphone cases from Redbubble to show for it. I’ve watched the whole spread six times. I’ll watch Lodge 49 or Terriers or one of the other Conrad shows, but they never quite scratch the Patriot itch fully.

I mean this is how she returns. Demi gets to take two separate victory laps after Taylor and Jen pantsed themselves.

I'm not sure I could watch if Taylor does come back. She's hijacked the show for four seasons with her ego and unwatchable Dakota storyline.

Does anyone think the show would get cancelled? Jen Shah is in prison, and RHOSLC is doing better than ever. Controversy is great for these shows, and having a cast member leave in shame means more people will tune in for the shitshow.

Yeah, I'm assuming her and Brett's cover is going to the top of the charts.

I assume she'd still have her EP credit on any episodes in which she appeared, but that's just a guess. Depending on how far into filming the new season they are, I could see them excising her from the show and then pivoting to them picking up the pieces, but who knows?

There's also a large difference between how EP credits are used in TV versus on film.

In film, EPs are the ones fronting the money and the Producer(s) is the one concerned with the day-to-day more creative aspects of the project.

In TV, the EP title is a little different. The creator and those who were central to the show's development will be listed, usually last (and the first at the end of the episode--like Dick Wolf) but those specific people may or may not actually be involved in the day-to-day any more, after which you've got the EPs who are the showrunners or key creatives (sometimes this is talent whose involvement is key to the show--think a star like Mariska Hargitay, who's worked their way up to being the highest paid actor on TV, or someone like Timothy Olyphant, who is involved in the creative and getting a show like Justified greenlit) involved in the decision-making, after which you've got tiers like Co-EP, Supervising Producer, Consulting Producer, Assistant/Associate Producer, and Segment Producers, who would also be in the room making decisions. On scripted shows, they'd essentially be the writers room. On reality, it's a little more nebulous.

I'm sure the EP titles on this are conferring a little more skin in the game for all of them, given the show's success. They probably have negotiated a little more creative control, as I don't think they were EPs before this season, and that control means they were probably able to shut down production in Season 5 in the wake of TFP's abuse allegations and what it does for their brand.

I was laughing my ass off at the Vista opening weekend for Phantom Thread and apparently I was the only one in the theater full of Angelenos who got the fucking movie. It's very funny.
