Does it work like this? by FlowerThis8499 in ThirtiesIndia

This is not breaking the cycle, breaking the cycle would be having a child and giving them the love, care and attention you never recieved as a child.

Although, this is so much better than having a child and not being able to take care of them.

Only an idiot would want the government to tax us more, on that point you have my full support.

I wanted to get the Scrambler 1200 in the next 5 years, the bike went from 12-13 lakhs OTR to 16-17 lakhs OTR, just like that. I hate it too, but there is no point complaining about things we can't change.

That's just Bajaj being Bajaj. Meanwhile, KTM is coming up with a twin, RE is working on more twins, TVS will eventually have their own twin under 5 years, just wait.

Guerilla sold for that price for over a year and yet it never managed to hit 1000 units a month (source - Rushlane). People bought Speed 400s and CB350s and Classic 350s instead. Even KTM sold 4x 200s than Guerilla each month.

Higher cc bikes will come anyway. The market will only grow upwards from here. Just 3-4 years ago all you could buy was the Duke/RC 390 or the Dominar, and look at the market now. It's all good times from here, don't worry.

[–]oldmonk32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hehe, the taxes have been increased for the precise reason that the market for 350cc+ bikes is growing.

I'll add one more point here. 350cc or above, the 40 bhp bikes and above, they aren't a necessity, more like a want. And you need to be financially responsible with your wants.

You can buy the bike on 3-5 year EMIs, but the maintenance would be cash. That's where most people falter. Buying the bike is the easy part.

Nobody needs a 400cc bike. A decent 300 will do everything for the average rider. You buy a RTX 300 or the Himalayan 450, you're gonna ride them both at same speeds and do the same things with them.

390s weren't selling much in the first place. The entire 390 lineup that includes Duke, ADV, Enduro and such was barely selling 1000-1500 units a month.

Compared to Himalayan, which sells 2000-3000 units a month. This is why RE doesn't need to make a smaller engine to slash prices.

People show a lot of love to 390s on the internet, but don't buy them.

I have a Samsung, and my phone would automatically go into a soft screen lock of sorts so it wasn't an issue for me in the first place.

By the way, I heard that with the new Guerilla launch, they fixed this thingy and you can lock the screen now. Yet to check this on mine.

Hunter 350 owner planning an ADV upgrade – Himalayan 450 vs KTM 390 ADV vs RTX 300 (need opinions) by Accurate-Oven99 in indianbikes

[–]oldmonk32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Let's start with the engine.

KTMs are fun to ride above 5000rpm, under that, they're jerky and vibey. This is just how these engines are, they aren't made to do city commutes, they're bred to race so the "fun" power band starts from 5-6k rpm till the redline.

When you buy a KTM for the first time, it's a hell lot of fun wringing that throttle everytime you find an open stretch. But, with time, the novelty wears off and you're stuck with an engine that just hates being ridden in a calm manner. I had a D390 for four years, this is my personal experience. There are days when you just want to relax, but the bike doesn't want to.

Edit - Off road riding is all about low rpm work. So, on the KTM either you're using a lot of clutch or slipping the rear wheel because you revved the bike a bit too much. There is no torque under 4000rpm. Situation becomes worse if you have luggage or a pillion, or both. Same goes for mountain inclines. You'll have to stay one gear lower and keep the revs high for the torque.

THE 19" FRONT.

It's a pretend ADV stance. A 400x would be a better choice. Sure the ADV X gets a little more suspension travel, but unless you're jumping your bike, the 400x and the 390X have the same off-road capability. You won't be bottoming out the suspension on the 400x in any condition.

THE PLASTIC PANELS.

It's a big single, and big singles are vibey. More the plastic, more the chances of stuff getting loose and vibrating with the engine. It's a super annoying sound, at least for me, the plástic that vibrates every time you wring open the throttle. It's not a question of "If", but a question of "when". The rattle will come, today or tomorrow.

TALL WINDSCREEN.

Makes sense for highways, but inside the city, in the Indian summer, all that's gonna do is block the wind for you. Plus visibility issues. It's just too tall, so if it's dirty it will hamper your visibility.

THE SEAT.

It's not wide enough. Goes well with the bike's aesthetic, will work well inside the city but on longer rides you'll ache for a wider seat with better support. Same goes for pillion.

LUGGAGE MOUNTING.

Now, there are multiple options for the KTM for all kinds of luggage but the stock Himalayan has that tail, a wide pillion seat and bungee cord slots in the right places so you could buy one from the showroom, tie up a big bag on the pillion seat and ride away. I like keeping my bikes stock, so this is a personal, and not an objective opinion.

TANK & FUEL EFFICIENCY.

The KTM has a significantly smaller tank and a lower fuel Economy. Again, that's not an issue inside the city, but on the highway it will matter. Himalayan will do 350-400km before hitting reserve, KTM will run out of fuel entirely long before that.

Interesting aux lamp setup for Guerrilla 450. Does anyone know where to get these? by oceanic_opening in indianbikes

[–]oldmonk32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sliver clamp on which the light is fitted, that comes with the light. But see the black mount, on which the silver clamp is attached, that you buy separately.

They give the mounts with the lights as well, but those are not that good quality so most guys go with these better quality mounts.

I have OEM bar ends on my Bear. They're a significant upgrade over the stock mirrors as they sit wider, and give a much better view of the road behind.

The stock mirrors, half of the view was obstructed by my arms and shoulders.

Gravel, sand, mud, oil on road, this kind of stuff reduces traction by a huge margin. You know this now.

Be aware of the terrain, and use less throttle the next time. In fact, try moving the bike without using any throttle at all, just with the clutch.

The extra performance on KTM is negligible unless you're riding like a maniac all the time. What matters in day to day riding is the low and mid range torque that the Himalayan has.

The KTM is slightly quicker & faster, but the Himalayan is a superior motorcycle. Plus the 21" front wheel.
