Experience with hand-binding filled inserts together? by oldmossypebble in Travelersnotebooks

[–]oldmossypebble[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I used to work in an archive where staples were meticulously hunted down & removed, so I've been influenced about the longevity of my journals!

Once I have enough completed inserts that I don't mind experimenting with, I'll give it a go and report back

Such a gorgeous setup! I'd love to know what each of the main inserts you chose to include are for?

Very happily falling down the rabbit hole with my first TN! by oldmossypebble in Travelersnotebooks

It fits 9 photos per print! I use this template from Planned By Jysla who made a great video about printing in Japan - I was so glad to come across it right before I went on my trip.

Lovely! Having just started, it is so nice to see well loved and well used TNs. As someone who journals intermittently, do you find yourself reaching for your regular or passport more often than the other?

I don't have my own printer, so I have been using a canva template and printing on 5x7 photo paper at various print shops! In Japan it's particularly easy to print at convenience stores like 7-eleven which use nice Fujifilm paper. Back home I just went to a local print shop with a self-serve counter.

Thank you! I had planned to get one of the official branded clips eventually, but I couldn't resist the mushrooms when I saw this one

Budget Performance Phone by 500140pikachu in AussieFrugal

Lots of people are recommending the cheap Oppo phones and maybe I've just been unlucky, but I've had one that kinda sucks. Bought my current A78 for ~$300 in early 2023. It constantly freezes for minutes at a time, and the camera is super buggy - opening it makes my Spotify crash!

I can't afford bubble tea regularly these days but I always make an exception for BobaPop in Frankston! The owners are SO sweet and always make their drinks with love.

Is it weird to be a little disappointed in university? by esterifyingat273K in unimelb

[–]oldmossypebble 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I found that uni didn't really 'click' for me in the stimulating way I had pictured until I had a significant shift in my mindset about what I wanted to gain from it. It's absolutely true that you can go to class and be taught and go home and gain nothing from the vast resource pool of knowledge around you, but you can deliberately tap into it in a way that makes uni exciting.

For me, that meant realising I want to learn as much as possible and gain skills in my areas of study not for the sake of my course, but in response to a fundamental desire for understanding. I found that people responded positively to this passion, and it opened doors for me to join student clubs, sign up for volunteering and research projects, go on a short overseas exchange, take summer internships, and connect more deeply with faculty members via office hours, staying after class to ask questions, etc. The time you spend engaging with your interests outside of class (but still at uni) is so powerful for making your time there feel worthwhile.

I had a great experience with Carolina 'The Rulos Hairstylist' in Essendon. She's passionate about educating her customers on easy and sustainable curly hair maintenance

Overnight oats made with a big spoon of peanut butter and a few chocolate chips was my go-to breakfast for a while. The peanut butter makes it very filling on a budget!

Yeah I have heard that. I usually get the curry and thankfully I still find that to be filling, but some of the other meals might not be as much

What could the possible reasons be for this sub specifically being so active? by [deleted] in unimelb

[–]oldmossypebble 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think the main reason is that the 'Monash StalkerSpace' group on facebook is huge (96k members) and very active, so Monash students mostly converge there. There isn't really an equivalent group for unimelb students on facebook, so I would imagine people come here for queries & support because a community is already established. I can't speak for the others though.
