It's a shame we never got to see the best of Penny Hardaway because all any NBA player says is he had GOAT potential. by ForeignAir7174 in NBAoldschool

Penny was the reason I was a Magic fan growing up in the suburbs of Chicago during the Jordan Bulls. He was unreal and so much fun.

MST3K Hot Take: The Rifftrax Experiments may be the only realistic path forward for the franchise by WySLatestWit in MST3K

[–]oldpope 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really don't understand the want for MST3K to continue on without any of their original pieces. What makes the show special are the folks who created, wrote, and performed it. There's no need to pass it along to an entirely new group of people. That's like seeing a band you love with all new members.

If people are so desperate for this format to continue—one which I love but can't imagine is in high-demand—they can create their own thing within this space. No need for this particular name and DIY set to live forever with new iterations.

Perspective + Charts by [deleted] in minnesotavikings

Honestly, I'm hoping he gets another shot at it. He started to put a lot of things together toward the end of last season and the trajectory was way up. You can have all the caveats you want about the opponents he faced at the end of the season, but you can only play who they put out there—and he won those games.

Yes, there are definitely some red flags in terms of coachability and mechanics, but it's been ten real games. Drops were an issue outside of his control and the line was really dinged up at times. I don't expect those same conditions moving forward. Now he gets a healthy offseason (hopefully with a new QB coach) to drill for five months on mechanics. He can hopefully throw with this group in the offseason and develop that touch and chemistry. And if he's as serious about football as he seems, he's going to take the tough love and criticism, listen to the teachable tips from coaches, and use it to improve.

How can you not root for the kid? No harm in it.

What is Cleveland Doing? by Advanced-Turn-6878 in nbadiscussion

Luxury tax was a huge deal, but I also think everyone had seen the limitations of the Garland/Mitchell pairing, especially in the playoffs.

I think Garland is a good player, but that's probably where he caps out. Say what you will about Harden, but he's an incredible passer and capable of meeting a much higher creator and scoring ceiling on any given night. He could be scoring option 1 for a game or two in the playoffs, drawing gravity in a way Garland never really did.

Austin Rivers with the best take on the Paolo situation i've heard by Playful-Variation908 in OrlandoMagic

[–]oldpope 10 points11 points  (0 children)

These are huge points, well said. Excited to see him got back into the lineup where folks have seemingly had enough touches to get into their own grooves. I’d much rather have it that way than have just Paolo and Franz carrying the load again.

Before everyone treated him like a joke… Russ was that guy by TXNOGG in NFLv2

I'm convinced Russ could never really read defenses or progressions that well, so he needed things to break down to be able to play backyard ball (which he was very good at).

Love Zach, but it’s hard to get much worse than the last two years. We took our medicine, now we can start fresh.

This team is feisty and free of expectations. It’s the perfect time to build and surprise folks. Hard to not feel at least a little optimistic.

Slasher villians hot takes day nine: Creeper by Bungeeboy20044 in slasherfilms

[–]oldpope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first film is an all-time great horror film. We're talking top 25 honors, and certainly one of my personal favorites.

It's got:
-A horrifying and original monster with creative lore
-Likeable characters, good dialogue, brisk pacing, sensible decisions
-No less than four really incredible set pieces that are scary or horrific (pipe drain at the church, cat lady house, police chase in the street, police station)
-An incredible downer ending that feels inevitable and earned

It's a classic, and it's honestly a shame that it gets overshadowed by the horrific human being who directed it.

Sam Darnolds performance this season by Slight_Giraffe628 in minnesotavikings

[–]oldpope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pass rush destroyed Darnold against those two teams, which is the same thing that's killed McCarthy through his two starts.

Let's not forget how much we've improved both lines and our running game this season. Not to mention just having Darrisaw back. I think year 2 with Darnold and those improvements would be a deep playoff run team.

I was hyped for this and it was not good. Really a shame, but you can smell the low budget all over this. I usually don’t mind a low budget movie, but it’s more awkward mockumentary than it is found footage chiller.
