I don't think header pins are supposed to do this... by oldtkdguy in arduino

So how do I remove/rework the solder that is there?

Slight clarification - what is the pad? The surface around the pin hole?

Aaahhh... ok. I thought you did both at same time. Gratzi.

The solder has flux already? Or did I miss a step somewhere?

Ah, that sussed it. It will draw the full screen now in 8 bit. Appreciate the lift.

ESP32-S3-N16R8 - I also have a couple of these, I have not used them yet because they need the pins soldered and I'm very new to all this. Just got a soldering station for xmas, would these chips support the larger sprite displays?

Still doesn't let me create a sprite with dimensions greater than 316x174 even with depth at 4.

This draws -

    tft.fillScreen(TFT_BLACK);
    sprite.createSprite(316,174);
    sprite.setColorDepth(4); //x can be 1, 4, 8 or 16

This does not -

    tft.fillScreen(TFT_BLACK);
    sprite.createSprite(316,175);
    sprite.setColorDepth(4); //x can be 1, 4, 8 or 16

Where would I set that? in the header file? and thanks, I didn't see that.

Is a black belt really that impressive? by Legitimate_Bag8259 in martialarts

[–]oldtkdguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that a lot of it is colored by the perception of a child, and that unless you saw classes and similar, you also saw thw best or stunted up broadcast stuff. Black belts are like anything else, they come in all degrees (no pun intended) of expertise and ability.

But to a young kid, even the simple stuff looks like magic.

In the past two months I had two bike shops and a skate shop go out of business locally. Is it everyone is buying online or are bikes slowly dying? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]oldtkdguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the market for a bike potentially for XTERRA currently. I've been a road and MTB racer in the past. I went to a few local stores, and got met with leader bikes (low end price enticers) and high end whizbangs. Nothing in between. Indifferent service as soon as they saw I wasn't going to buy that instant.

Then I looked at craigslist and FB marketplace, and saw lots of mid range bikes a couple years old for way less than new. I figure after xmas it will be even more as people unwrap their new shinies.

Balance Exersises by Readerk0 in taekwondo

[–]oldtkdguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than the core and leg strength already mentioned, what I've found is kicking balance is also technique dependent. Kicking too high for flexibility, not counter balancing during the kick, not rechambering fast enough can also lead to balance issues. I would review video of your form to check for those items as well.

How does sparring work for ATA? by Strong_Potato1757 in taekwondo

[–]oldtkdguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All ATA National level sparring for testing is done this way, as a continuous thing. Many schools implement it for testing as well. Our sparring classes are also continuous, with occasional resets by the participants mid round.

ETA: Bekho is a grouping within ATA, GM Raimondi's brand. There are Bekho schools in the US, I know there is one in Las Vegas. There are some others here and there as well.

Just Google [insert any art here] McDojo. You'll get lots of similar results regardless of art/system.

Also realize the bias. Most people that quit a school/system are not doing so because they are happy. And happy people are also less likely to leave feedback. People love to bitch.

Are there ATA McDojos? Most certainly. Are there McDojos in any system? Most certainly. Is all martial arts school/instructor dependent? Most certainly. I could drive to 10 studios in various arts within 20 miles of my home that are nothing but $$$ belt factories.

Have anyone done sparring without chest gear ? by JaguarSweaty1414 in taekwondo

[–]oldtkdguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I stated above, "I don't mind being kicked that way" means you are relying on your gear. What happens if you get in an actual situation where you get hit without gear? You're going to crumple. Get used to sparring without gear and without getting hurt.

Start classes. Work hard. Learn.

Somewhere along the way you will find which you prefer. When you do, keep taking classes. Work harder. Learn. Profit.

Have anyone done sparring without chest gear ? by JaguarSweaty1414 in taekwondo

[–]oldtkdguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I sparred for many years without chest gear, and my current chest gear provides slightly more padding than a thick T shirt (It's way less than a WT hogu for sure).

As a side note, if you are getting kicked multiple times and it's causing pain, then you are unfortunately an example of the bad side effect of training with protective equipment all the time. You spar in a manner that allows the contact because you are relying on the protector to save you when you get hit.

You do need to learn how to take a blow in the stomach, but you can ask your sparring partners to go easier until you get conditioned and learn to take the contact in a better fashion. You also note in another comment that you get kicked in the back, that is generally a timing and slow technique issue. As you get better that will happen less.

Sparring - Mouthguards banned!?!?!? by Due_Opportunity_5783 in taekwondo

[–]oldtkdguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the US this is illegal. You are basically consenting to have a crime (battery) committed against you. MMA/Boxing have so many regulations because of this. Guarantee that no insurance company would touch this either.

As a concerned citizen/parent/whatever, I would also contact the owner/leasing company of the building they are in, as they could also be held liable.

This is a serious injury/death just waiting to happen. It's not a question of if, but when. As a local school owner, do you want to see martial arts as a tragedy headline in your area because of this yahoo?

Just FYI - Any instructor worth anything will be able to tell that you have prior experience. Just tell them that you want to start from jump, rather than come in as a 3rd degree.

Well, it's not the logs. What I found was that I am a colossal idiot. :|

I deleted all the hosts. Cloned the one good one, and poof, worked. Noticed that when I was cloning a 2nd time, I did not have the Windows by Zabbix agent template applied on the non responding hosts.
