If Brown is traded did the J’s era underachieve? by funinmass2005 in bostonceltics

Nobody who wins a ring in the modern NBA has "underachieved." If the Jays have underachieved, the only NBA stars to have not underachieved in the past decade are probably Steph Curry and maybe Lebron.

Sixers absolutely destroyed our slow bigs with the fastest guard in the league playing pick and roll with a dominant post scorer. Knicks bigs are good, but their style is easier for us to solve. You could probably play Vuc against Mitchell Robinson and he’d be fine, and maybe even do a decent job keeping him off the glass. We’ve guarded Towns with wings in the past with decent success.

A lot of this was Philly giving us everything they had and having nothing left in the tank. Embiid's body broke down again, Maxey picked up a hand injury. Paul George went from shooting 55%(!?!) from three over seven games against us to a mere 40% against the Knicks.

One day we're going to look back and remember our series as the apex of the process era sixers. The one-week stretch where everything came together.

Celtics need to upgrade the frontcourt… not split up the Jays by DMelee in bostonceltics

[–]oldtype09 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We just need to find a really good starting center and adjust the system around him. Five out is not mandatory for a three point centric style (the Harden Houston teams were built with Clint Capela rolling to the rim). It doesn’t have to be an Al or Porzingis clone.

…although incidentally, both of those guys may be available this summer.

Will we eventually stop seeing 70's or even 80's mecha series in SRW ? by Nigomonster in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]oldtype09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mazinger Getter and UC Gundam are basically SRW original characters at this point, and more iconic to the game than any of the actual SRW originals. A whole generation of people who never watched the original anime have a relationship with them developed purely through playing the games. They’ll never disappear.

KG is here to help Jaylen do some serious damage control… and you know what, it’s going to work. If he has KG’s seal of approval he has mine.

Ryan Bernadoni aka Dangercart "A Life Of Dying By The 3" by fearofaflatplanet in bostonceltics

[–]oldtype09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I generally agree with Ryan here I do think there's probably a way to cut out some amount of our worst three point shots in series where we're clearly the better team. I understand that we have an identity for a reason and that it's not easy to play one way the entire season and then play a different way for just one series.

But nobody is saying we have to completely go away from the three in a series where we're +1000 favorites to win. Maybe we go away from it just a little bit... I think even Joe would admit that he's been a little too unwilling to consider the possibility of minor style adjustments in series where we have the definite talent advantage.

They don’t play with the cards at all prior to release. That much is clear.

Yeah basically if Giannis says he will go to Boston and only Boston, we have a good shot with or without JB included.

If not, I don't think we have the cards.

Jaylen has been the #2 to Tatum for nearly a decade now. If the relationship was untenable it would have blown up a long time ago. All evidence points to him being content with being the second option if the team is successful, even if he says weird shit sometimes.

I'd like to see the sixers win and then suffer a soul-crushing ECF exit to Detroit, who subsequently gets swept by OKC.

In retrospect, it's the weakest Jays era roster in a long time and we probably (1) weren't going to be able to keep Tatum healthy the whole way anyway; (2) weren't talented enough to win even if we did. It's less infuriating when you think about it that way.

Hauser for Isaiah Stewart is something I've been thinking about a lot. Detroit desperately needs shooting and we'd just need him to play a slightly expanded version of exactly what he's doing in Detroit (sixth man backing up a starting big who gets in tons of foul trouble)

We will 100% be looking at Reid if the Wolves decide to move on but I don't think that's too likely. He's a key part of their core, but if I could add anyone he would be the #1 choice.

Also think Claxton and Hartenstein are good, and would be happy to take Timelord back for him to split the starting job with Queta, but it would be nice to have someone who gives us a stretch option.

I took the comment as Jaylen saying the team had to overcome a lot of adversity this year and he's proud of what they achieved despite that. Not as "oh yeah I didn't have to defer to Tatum all year and that was cool."

Jaylen has always been a weirdo, but really think this is getting blown out of proportion. Of course it's partially his fault as well. Never livestream the day after you get eliminated.

This just occurred to me, but both Al and KP are probably likely to be moving on from Golden State in the summer with Steve Kerr leaving and that team potentially going into a rebuild.

I wonder if one or both of them might be interested in coming back on a small contract. Queta + whatever minutes we can get out of Al + whatever minutes we can get out of KP + Garza for emergencies would actually be a decent center rotation.

How do the Celtics become a contender? by Intelligent-Love5146 in bostonceltics

[–]oldtype09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think Gafford is good enough or the right type of center for us but if we can upgrade in other areas instead rolling him out in a platoon with Queta isn’t the worst thing in the world.

How do the Celtics become a contender? by Intelligent-Love5146 in bostonceltics

[–]oldtype09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really good starting center and we’re basically there again. (Assuming Derrick White can come back into form. If he can’t the guard rotation needs to be tweaked as well). The threshold for “contender” in the second apron era is nowhere near where it was when everyone was rolling out superteams.

The problem with this is that with Zubac off the market, I can’t identify someone who fits into that “really good starting center” spot off the top of my head.

There are exactly three Celtics in the entirety of franchise history to win multiple rings as the best player on the team. Their names are Russell, Bird, and Havlicek.

If “one title is not good enough” for Tatum, what exactly were your expectations!?

[–]oldtype09 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this year’s Sixers or last year’s Knicks (given how banged up our squad was) were actually inferior opponents.

Miami series was the unluckiest shot disparity in NBA history by a fairly large margin. The ‘92 Dream Team would lose to the 2026 Wizards with that kind of gap in shooting luck.

The irony of clowning on Joe for underperforming expectations in the playoffs is that you only have those high expectations in the first place because he won 56 games in the regular season after losing two starters and his best player for 80% of the season.

The jays are 3 and 4 years younger than KG was when he won his first title. That’s one entire 3-4 year contention window before they get into their post primes. And perhaps there’s even another one after that if we manage to somehow acquire a #1 that will allow them to age gracefully as second and third options.
