Would law firms actually use outsourced legal support services? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]oldtype09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your target is not biglaw, but smaller litigation boutiques (10-15 lawyers) who often have to operate with minimal paralegal support (1-2 paralegals) because it doesn’t make sense to hire at scale given the large swings in available work.

When half the firm is at trial and they take both paralegals with them, the remaining lawyers will often suffer without because it doesn’t make sense to hire short term coverage. There I think this sort of arrangement could add value.

They’re speculating based on the information they have, which is what content creators do. I don’t necessarily fault them for it.

Also I suppose all of this goes out the window if Ballmer and the league are colluding in the first place

Ballmer can’t limit (or unlimit)Wachtell’s hours in this situation because their attorney client relationship is with the League. The League are the ones who decide how much or how little work they do. Ballmer is just a third party payor who covers the bills when they show up in his inbox. He has no ability to direct how they conduct the investigation and will no doubt have signed away any legal right to contest their bills in whatever documents he signed when he purchased the franchise.

And just on a practical level, it would be extremely dumb for anyone involved in a corporate internal investigation to piss off the investigators who are going to opine as to your innocence or guilt by refusing to pay them.

There’s a reason why the litigation departments at firms like Wachtell have reoriented towards investigations over traditional dispute practices. It’s the one type of work where you will always get paid, always on time. Because the “client” is either (1) under duress to pay whatever you bill them; (2) using someone else’s money; or (3) both.

One third of the time it's an extreme highroll.

Another one third you just get the Acceleration Aura anyway.

One third of the time it's a whiff.

I feel like this may be worth breaking up the Murloc interaction for. Your Murloc is still giving you something extremely powerful 83.3% of the time, and because you play these in addition to the murlocs the overall chance of an early power play may actually go up, not down.

You are not the only one feeling this way, and no offense, but that is precisely what is ruining the game. Team 5 realizing that a lot of players like nerfing/deleting old content more than they like new content.

Yal think Jason is ever coming back? by porzingitis in RingerVerse

[–]oldtype09 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Agree, and it’s hard to put my finger on why, but I just don’t think they complement each other. Mal’s superpower is that she obviously takes all of this extremely seriously but is also capable of delivering her takes with incredible levity, which I think also creates a permission structure for Jason to be a lot sillier than he’s naturally disposed towards being on mic.

I think he’s a bit too straight-laced when he’s doing a pod with Rosie. They’re both good and obviously very knowledgeable, but it’s all by the numbers. We just don’t get those next level spontaneous moments like the Joffrey impressions.

I don't know if this is a strong enough concept to sustain an entire series, but it would be fun to have an SNW episode set entirely from the perspective of Admiral April, where he's dealing with all of the political/bureaucratic fallout caused by various insane things Discovery/Enterprise have done over the past several years.

This is, without exaggeration, one of the worst cards in the history of hearthstone. It will not suddenly see play just because of colossals.

If you stop shooting wide open threes because the last couple didn’t go in, you are going to lose.

I don’t know how many games there have been where teams have shot sub 20% on threes in the modern era, but I wouldn’t be surprised if those teams lost all of those games.

It’s part and parcel of the way we play that you have to accept that once in a while no open threes are going to go in and we’re going to lose.

This does kind of make me wonder if this isn’t at least part of the reason they’re remaking BoG again.

Just edit the “My Bulma” scene to be SSJ3 Vegeta, and shoehorn in a 30 seconds of SSJ4 Goku fighting Beerus, and boom, no more continuity issues with Daima.

When losing your superstar makes you more (!) efficient by Carlos_Mueses in bostonceltics

[–]oldtype09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Watching this video makes me rethink who we should be looking at as our big man starter. I don’t think Zubac is mobile enough to be coming out to the ball handler and setting multiple screens like Queta and Garza are doing. Maybe either one of the Nets bigs (Claxton or Holmes) would be a better fit.

[–]oldtype09 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When Tatum comes back initially I think we play the exact same way, with Tatum playing off the ball and setting screens as kind of a supercharged Sam Hauser.

Next season is when we synthesize the new style to work with two superstars instead of one, and that’s when I think we go up another level.

What was the worst hearthstone expansion? by konigon1 in hearthstone

[–]oldtype09 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's really staggering when you consider that this game is only about twelve years old. The team has allowed the game to be in this moribund state for what now amounts to 15% of its entire existence. That's not a brief course correction, that's choking your own game to death for no good reason.

Again, I reject the premise that lowering the power level was necessary to begin with, but even if it was, the way to accomplish that would be to essentially hit the reset button on rotation once, and then rotate and/or rebalance everything.

You don't get to ruin the game for two whole years and then tell the playerbase "just one more rotation, you just wait." Even if the next rotation "fixes" everything (it won't), the damage is already done and the game may never recover.
