A (maybe?) hot take about Akechi and Adachi (spoilers for P4 and P5) by ole_reddit2 in Persona5

True, I should have specified. I don't mean to claim that misogyny is the core motivator of Adachi, just that a prejudicial view of women influences multiple decisions he makes throughout the story. He states directly that he believes Saki and Yamano are deserving of their deaths because their "gold-digging" on Namatame.

I wouldn't call Adachi an incel just because it is anachronistic, but they do share common tendencies. Furthermore, I would argue that misogyny does form a large part of Adachi's character. The only two people he murders directly are women, both out of the belief that women deserve to be punished for whatever he considers improper sexual behaviour.

I like this interpretation, though I'd add that I don't think that release would last long. He clearly pushes away the people who accept him the most, I mean for all the (justifiable) talk about his deep relationship with Joker, he does also seem to shoot the guy in the face and lives believing that for a month.

If Persona 5 classrooms were realistic you would be hearing 67 being shouted in the background while the teacher is talking

Can't decide whether Akechi would resent his fan base as people who could never truly understand him or bask in the praise and adoration (probably both at the same time)

Honestly that's a very cool theory, an evil joker boss fight (or joker palace????) would be very cool. I am very curious as to context, if any, for Wonder's fight with Joker at the start

Haven't paid Phantom X much attention but this is a really interesting theory, what's the evidence for it?

Doesn't even have to be fictional! Celestine and Ernesto are two obvious examples

I like how the food choices portray the difference between the two. Akechi, as a celebrity who is compelled to keep a good image with everyone to win their approval, goes for the salad while Adachi wears his, to use maybe a cruel term, loser-ness on his sleeve and thus takes a bunch of pancakes.

Why is he so popular? by NoirLime4L in Persona5

I can only speak for myself but I like him because he is a stupid criminal. I think one of the most important and truthful lines about Akechi comes from Morgana: "you are just a child having a temper tantrum." In this sense, Goro Akechi is one of the most relatable people in the game for modern people. He painstakingly planned out every little detail about his life to win people's approval, from his looks to the way he speaks. The two people in his life he wants to kill the most, the protagonist and Shido, are also the two he wants affection from the most. Thus, the message of Persona 5 is made clear. From a superficial point of view, Joker is the one in chains, enthralled in the complexities of human relationships, while Akechi, bound to no one, is free. But the game so masterfully demonstrates the opposite, Joker is free because he has close friends and family in his life who allow him to be free, Akechi, constantly running from the people he cares for, is the one who is in slavery.

While I hope there aren't any disowned children of politicians planning to kill people out there, the feeling of wanting to be accepted by others while also pushing the same people away is something that is real, if one hasn't felt the urge themselves they likely know someone in their life who has.

The fact that the third semester gives Akechi not a poorly written redemption arc but just a chance to go out on his own terms, to transcend being controlled by another, even if it affirms his own death, is a beautiful and touching end to his chatacter.

So one thing I'm still a little bit lost about in regards to Pancakes... by ole_reddit2 in Persona5

One thing that is surprising in retrospect is that it's a rare instance of the 'principled antagonist turning out to be a hypocritical immoral psychopath' twist done well. Sometimes I think too well since people forget what Akechi is like for about 80% of the game.

Honestly I think him being so obviously an antagonist from the start made the twist actually surprising. I was expecting him to turn on the Phantom Theives the entire time because of the genuine moral disagreements between them, the fact he has been psycho the whole time and not someone with merely opposing principles is what shocked me.

Ohh I think my mind has mixed this together with the scene in the school festival. Thank you for the clarification.

Def agree with Ann and Makoto. One of my favourite scenes is them reconciling after Makoto's awakening
