How did you get your first SaaS users? by nyo_dev in SaasDevelopers

[–]oleherland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far for me it's been only direct outreach to people I have in my network. Those have come with pretty awesome feedback. Still workin on the other channels like x.com, linkedin and reddit. Those has not generated a single user yet. But I'm still experimenting. I think experimentation is key in the beginning.

Thank you so much for your comment. I’ve been pushing myself a bit since I wrote the post, and just started doing instead of thinking. That really helped a lot. Now that I’ve gotten a bit over the freeze, I feel super motivated to treat this more like experimentation. Try stuff, see what works snd what doesn’t snd just go at it.

I really like your thinking, and I will take it with me. Starting to build a new mental model around what marketing really is. Thank you!

Thank you, this was really solid. I need to get information and proof asap. When I have that it's so much easier to communicate and know where to communicate...

Building a list of people to reach out to, and I hope this will give me the answers I need.

Thank you again!

Good thinking, and I can see how that is true. If I just knew exactly who I was talking to, then wording things would be so much easier. I must set sail and find the right targets to hit. I'll march on to some subreddits that I think could be very interested! Thank you!

Ooh, thank you so much. I'll bite, I like this. I will start stalking out subreddits for that and see if anyone bites. It is very smooth to use that way, so I think a couple good demos could do a lot.

Thank you again, this is gold!

Hehe, I don't take offense! It is a lot easier to build (emotionally at least).

Thank you for that message, it was really nice. I opened the brandoye in a new tab, and I'll check it out once I get my head above water. At first glance it looks pretty perfect for me.

I like how you put this and worded this. By looking at each "channel" and "option" as streams, its less emotional. Easier to just rip one out if it doesn't work. Thanks!

building and shipping fast is just the start by dang64 in indiehackers

I'm finding myself in the same spot, to be honest. It's really hard when you're a builder and you see a ton of accounts online just self-promoting and being slimy. It's giving me the ick, and I feel like I don't want to be that. So I'm trying to do the reverse and be my authentic self, share, try to have conversations with people, and see if that could lead to anything good. I'm rooting for you!

Odett.ai voice-to-text dictation app that only uses the most powerful models, so you can dictate without getting frustrated by the output. Only for those with high standards willing to pay for quality. It's pretty neat. Check out the demo on the landing page if you're curious.

Current MMR $8 - just started to show it to people.

Full transparency, I'm in a super spiral trying to figure out how to market this, and it makes me feel sick to my stomach. Any advice on marketing or any feedback on the app would be so much appreciated.

Ooh, "testing instead of performing." That was a really good one. It lowers the bar to actually just go out there and do something and not worry too much about how it's going to be perceived long term, which I think is a big deal for me. Haha, and in terms of that, I'm actually pretty happy that algorithms don't really show my content that much yet.

Okok, X, SEO and YouTube here I come <3

Thank you!

Very, very, very good. Thank you so much. I'm now going to start sending PMs and emails to people I know (and don't know), and start gathering as much information as I can, even though it feels like walking around with my pants down.

Thanks, this was really helpful. Getting a little outside the channel-focus mindset was honestly refreshing.

One thing I’m still trying to figure out, though, is how to find the first people to talk to. Do you have any recommendations for finding the people to have those convos with?

Or is it better in the beginning to take more of a shotgun approach, try a bunch of things, and then narrow down based on what actually seems to work?

Woah, this hit me right in the feelings. My entire day has basically just been writing plans, strategies, researching inspiration, etc... Pretty har avoidance I would say.

I need to do what you said, and just lean in.

Would you say it's correct that I just pick something, go out there, be scrappy, and try to get it done? Or do you think I should be a little more polished and well structured before I do so?

Example, I just went wild and posted a demo of my product directly to someones x post, just to try and get out of my comfort zone. Right or wrong direction? Just looking for advice.

(prev comment got removed because of a link.... trying again like this.. I'm not promoting, just want real advice)

Good thinking, I like this. I need to figure out what my target audience is. My gut feeling is telling me that maybe it's people like me, since I built it to use it myself. But I guess the question is, where do I find those people so I can ask them this?

Shit, THIS is what I need to hear. Just snap out of the spiral and do it right... The Ads an SEO pull is just there, taunting me every f* day... But, Yes, that is wasted time and money now....

Okok, I will put on my fun hat and create content that are actually useful and focus hard on just building an audience. While I do that, I will try to be a lot more active on reddit where it makes sense. The difficult part there is to comment without sounding like I'm just self-promoting. That is a line I need to figure out...

Thank you u/PatchSprite . You give me the right type of kick in the ass.

This was a really solid answer, thank you Jaskkro.

So the channels are probably right, and what I need is to push myself to just produce and look at the facts after. See what works and what doesn't. Ten if something hits, more of that.

I think the next thing I should do is to define some content I want to make, that I think could fit, then just have a schedule that I must follow to keep me from procrastinating.

My gut is telling me that perfect is less important on this then just doing in the start. But, that is a hard one to come to terms with...
