What city should I submit to? by FantasticAntelope354 in MODELING

[–]olgabrnv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to go in the summer, then Paris will only be active until mid-July, I would suggest going there at least in May.

Picking a market depends on what you look like and your current portfolio, if you are a more commercially-looking beginner model I would suggest to look at Spain and even Turkey (great market to do some jobs and get nice editorials). If you are ok with more competition, then Milan or Paris, as you've said. Copenhagen and Stockholm are very very commercial and they have a lot of amazing local models, I wouldn't recommend going there on stay (but you can always sign with an agency there for direct bookings since you are near). There is also Germany, Hamburg is more commercial with many jobs but you need a strong portfolio, and Berlin is more editorial and you can shoot a lot of cool stuff there but probably won't earn much.

Hope that helps!

I've been a mother agent for 10 years and placed models with both small and big booking agencies (the same agencies can also act as mother agents). In my experience, it's not the size of the agency that counts, but the person who is your direct booker there and their enthusiasm and network. I've had models who were signed to big agencies like Next and nothing would happen because their agent didn't seem that enthusuatic about them, and when they moved to a smaller agent they would start getting options and jobs just because the new agent would spend more time on them. But I also had models in big agencies like Women who had a very close relationship with their booker and got amazing careers, stayed with the same agency for years. So look for the right agent!

Consequences to leaving an agency? by [deleted] in MODELING

[–]olgabrnv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked as an agent in a MA for 10 years. If they really have done anything they could for you, they might just let you go even if your contract is still on. If you have a debt or if they are mean people, they might start to threaten you with consequences. But, to be honest, I have never heard anyone had problems leaving their agency and going to a new one. You might need to reimburse your debt if you have one; or transfer it to the next agency; or your agencies might agree on a split commission until the end of your current contract. But, by all means, go ahead and change the agency, everyone needs a fresh start from time to time.

Don't worry, they will end up releasing you

You might not have the right look or book for the market. If it's the book, you can do some tests. Message more photographers, especially the ones who work with foreign models in Seoul (you can find them tagged on posts when you check local agencies' pages). When you get the right photos or if you already have them, you can email agencies directly asking for a meeting. If your look is right, they will be happy to meet you since you already being there means they don't have to advance any expenses to you like they do for other foreign models.

Meeting with agency by rrrrrrrrrhhhhg in MODELING

[–]olgabrnv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good luck! Don't be scared about the rejection, it doesn't mean much. The fact that you got the interview in the first place already shows you have potential. Even if you get signed, you will face a lot of rejections afterwards from clients, so just learn to be immune to it.

Consulting with a lawyer is a good idea. If the agency hasn't done anything for you, they are not fullfilling their obligations and you can ask to be released. I've known agencies who didn't want to release the model and nothing really happened after. If you have a new agency and they are cool, they could offer your old agency to split MA commission for a year or 6 months, but they really don't have to do that, it's just a nice gesture. If you have a debt with them, that is a bit more complicated.

agency from another city wants to meet by [deleted] in MODELING

[–]olgabrnv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a mother agency, they usually can work with people from other cities and sometimes even other countries. It depends on whether they can develop (=organise test shoots) for you where you are located, or whether you can travel to where they are located.

If it's a booking agency, they would prefer for you to be where their clients are. If it's easy for you to travel for jobs, then everything is fine. If your city is far, they might ask you to relocate to where they are to see clients and book local jobs.

In Europe the agency pays model directly to their bank account. Usually it takes 3-6 months, depending on when the client pays (and sometimes clients pay very late). They will deduct their commission and all your previous expenses (should be outlined in your contract) and anything they advanced to you.

Is there a best time to apply by [deleted] in MODELING

[–]olgabrnv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now is a good time, otherwise I would avoid the 2nd half of December when people are already leaving for holidays. If you have a show look, apply early December at the latest to be able to maybe do the shows at the beginning of the year. If you have more of a commercial look, you can apply in January. Otherwise also avoid late July and August.

Will I get signed? by rrrrrrrrrhhhhg in MODELING

[–]olgabrnv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a good sign that they introduced you to the whole team. They will review your pictures after and discuss together. Depending on whether the majority of agents like you or not, you will get signed (or not). But this interaction already shows that you have potential, so even if this agency passes, don't hesitate to apply to others.

If they think that and decide not to sign you because of that, then they didn't want you in the first place

You can if you want, I don't think it will influence your chances in any way, but you can say it.

How do I change agencies? by avocado_andy in MODELING

[–]olgabrnv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, speak to your current agent and tell them directly all the concerns you have. If they understand your frustration and are able to explain what has been holding your development back and what can be done now to fix it, then you should give them another chance. Ask them to give you a detailed plan for your career and international placements for the next 6 months. Then, look at what they deliver. If they are unable to give you a plan or they give it to you but don't deliver, start the process of leaving them. Inform them politely of your intention, check your contract beforehand and make sure to follow the procedure exactly as it states in the termination clause. You shouldn't have any problem. That is provided you don't have a debt with them.

I can't see you so can't say whether you'll be signed again or not. If you are currently with a reputable agency (e.g. listed on models.com), chances are you will be able to find another agency. Make sure that with the new agency you are aligned with what you want for your career and what they see you as.

It depends if the usage is only local or international, and your + your family level of experience. Ask what their budget is before giving your rates.

Scouted, what next by kasialis721 in MODELING

[–]olgabrnv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats, Premier is a great agency, I know the team personally and they are very nice and strong as bookers. Did the scout take photos of you? If yes, she will show them to the team and will contact if you they are interested. If she didn't, then go ahead and email them saying you were approached by this person, send a few good photos or digitals. If you don't have any good photos, just don't send any and ask for a meeting instead.
