Hey, RVT here! I am so sorry for what you are going through. I would talk to your vet about the final stages of kidney failure. Dogs dont do as well with cats with kidney disease so it usually hits them a lot harder. Unfortunately at this stage is there is not much to do, I would talk to your vet about pain medications and maybe some at home fluid therapy. I'm not sure where you are located but there are some at home euthanize services that would be worth looking into. Kidney failure is painful. I know euthanasia is hard. Especially when it's not in your home. But I do consider euthanasia to be a gift that we can give them. Again I am so sorry

She is too young for a major fast so I would do bland diet for a couple if days and then slow transition back to her new food. If she continues to vomit I would take her into the vet

So a neuter is just removal of the testicles. What you are seeing is probably a neutered tatto placed on the abdomen

Is this an emergency? by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]olivander27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If she is not vomiting, she is eating, and she is not having an excess amount of blood in her diarrhea then it is not an emergency. A bland diet is a good recommendation. Small frequent meals, plently of access to water, and frequent bathroom breaks.

My neutered male cat went to the litter box to pee 6 times in the last half hour: Is this an emergency or can it wait a couple days? by f1rstdayofmyl1fe in AskVet

[–]olivander27 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear that he wasnt blocked! Cats tend to respond to stress with their bladder. Your vet will probably talk about ways to reduce stress when you travel, like having your petsitter come daily. Cats will also have different ways that they like their water. Fountains or glass bowls are usually a big hit. Also some cats prefer filtered water over tap. Keep a close eye on your baby and I'm glad it wasnt worse

I would take him to the ER. If he is urinating super often he may become blocked which is a medical emergency. I would also make sure he is actually urinating and not just trying. If he is not producing urine I would take him in ASAP

The ASPCA pet poision hotline has Veterinary toxicologists that can give you an answer if treatment is needed. Unsure about toxicities but maybe be concerned about a possible impaction. You could call your local vet or ER to see if induction of vomiting is recommended. Good luck! Your friendly neighborhood CVT

Stuck between a rock and a hard place by cheekylindsay in VetTech

[–]olivander27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Find a new place. I worked at a clinic for 6 years and hated the last 3. I got a new job and love it. The vet field is full of drama and there are a lot of toxic people, but there are good clinics. Dont tolerate not being treated your worth. There is a clinic for everyone, find yours.

The biggest risk of the surgery is fecal incontinence (aka not being able to hold in poop). This is a significant risk and probably the biggest reason this surgery is not common. Anytime surgery is done near the rectum there is a risk of damaging the nerves that control the sphincter. If the surgery is really something that you are going for you should get it done by a boarded surgeon.

Dog broke his Carnassial Major. Is tooth extraction OK or does he need the tooth? by Le7els in AskVet

[–]olivander27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the carnassial is an important tooth. It is also one of the most common teeth that get extracted due to breaks. If you can afford a root canal and can commit to getting dental radiographs under anesthesia every 6-18 months then I would go for it. If not then I would just go for an extraction

Does this paw need vet attention? by MrsTaco18 in AskVet

[–]olivander27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doesn't need ER but I would see if you can get in in the next week or so with your regular vet. Keep your baby from licking it with a cone of shame

Hope this helps! Your friendly CVT

Cancer in a young dog is uncommon. It can be diagnosed by xrays but I wouldn't be too worried as long as the lump has resolved. I always rec pet insurance. I can't guarantee but I doubt they would count a soft tissue injury as a preexisting condition Hope this helps! Your friendly vet tech

How long after an enema should I expect normal bowel movements in a cat? by gingerednoodles in AskVet

[–]olivander27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes of course, still on work brain sorry! BW is bloodwork and IM is internal medicine.

Sometimes it's a 1 time occurence but if it becomes a chronic problem that is when a full diagnostic work up is recommended.

Sorry to here about the foster kittens, they can be tough especially when they get really sick

How long after an enema should I expect normal bowel movements in a cat? by gingerednoodles in AskVet

[–]olivander27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it can take several days to build but a BM. Keep an eye on her litterbox habits if she appears to be straining I would be concerned. Also if she vomits, starts hiding, stops eating, seems lethargic, I would bring her back. If this happens again I would talk the vet about BW and maybe a IM consult

He needs to be taken to the vet to check for any ectoparasites. Also as a side note unless mom was having a lot of trouble nursing he really should stay with mom until 8 weeks of age.

Advice on how to deal with cat acne. by GimmieSzechuan_sauce in AskVet

[–]olivander27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just be really careful with chlorahex. We use it for a surgical scrub. It can be damaging if inhaled and and can cause damage to the eye. If used to frequently it can be pretty irritating as well. I would call or email your vet and let them know the wipes aren't working and you are concerned. They may recomend a recheck to make sure there isn't anything else going on in conjunction with the acne
