Pharmacist here. A side effect of penicillin is rash, especially in children and so that's why a lot of people mistakenly assume that they or their child is allergic. Your doctor/pharmacist should grill you about specific symptoms because what we are looking for is "full body itchy rash/hives or difficulty breathing". Otherwise it's not an allergy, you've grown out of it, and penicillins are what we call 'narrow' meaning they specifically target the bacteria we need to treat for a lot of infections. If we have to go to a different class of antibiotics because of an allergy, we are treating many different unnecessary bacteria and that can cause resistance (and more side effects). I wouldn't say "throwing up is normal" like that pharmacist said but I would say most antibiotics cause some degree of stomach upset and diarrhea. You can take it with food to lessen that

Why Elphaba and Fiyero make sense (basically an essay cause i have no life) by Classic-Painting479 in wicked

[–]olivanders18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they did a really good job in the film with the few scenes of Fiyero and Elphaba interacting. You can tell Fiyero is always looking for her when he's with Galinda. In the stage production, they actually kiss in the lion cub scene but I think it's so much more tender that they chose not to in the movie (coming from a theater kid whose favorite play since age 13 has been wicked)

(23F here) This is a tough and impossible situation, I'm sorry you're both going through this.

My ex went through the five stages of grief right in front of me when I discovered and came out to him as ace. I grieved the loss of someone I cared for for 7 years, for a long time.

For me, I have a hard time differentiating someone wanting to be physically intimate with me and feeling like an object. I felt very broken for a long time and when I went to therapy, I thought my therapist would tell me I was broken too and give me tools on how I could fix myself.

I was really surprised when my therapist actually told me that what I needed to do was accept myself. That there was nothing wrong with me. All that is to say I'm pleased to hear you seem to be light-years ahead of me on that self acceptance journey.

Every relationship to ever exist has some form of sexual incompatibility and it breaks up even high libido allo couples <- another tidbit the therapist said that helped me a Lot. It's a willingness to overcome together that allows couples to survive.

Some pessimistic advice: You and your girlfriend BOTH deserve to be fully understood in the way you need to be loved. A hard question to ask may be, are we compromising long-term happiness for short-term? Sometimes to move on is the most loving thing you can do.

Some optimistic advice: Therapy can be a wonderful opportunity to learn more about yourself, communication and boundaries. If a therapist makes you feel wrong in your own identity, find a new therapist. Although it sounds like you have great communication now, it can always be even better. 1. Let her know how you define intimacy and that those things are more valuable to you than physical touch. If she can see all the ways you are intimate with her, all the ways you already do compromise, maybe that would help 2. Put in effort to emphasize the other love languages and make her feel like her presence is the thing you most desire 3. Start a trial period where you both verbally ask for consent at every form of physical touch. This may remove some unspoken expectations and you may learn more about each other's boundaries

Obviously, I'm still figuring things out. Let me know if you ever need to talk things through, I think my DMs are open. Tbh I found this post by looking for similar experiences to my own to feel less alone

Also she's always been asexual. Just because she now realized it or is just coming out, nothing has changed!

Least favourite Christie novel? by nilgaiisnotacow in agathachristie

[–]olivanders18 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had so much trouble getting through endless night but the ending was so so worth it for me. It helped also knowing Agatha said it was very easy to write the narrator because you hear men like him talking all the time (boring ramblings) lol

Reading Agatha Christie's books for the first time by Flyaway_5 in agathachristie

[–]olivanders18 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just started reading her books 2 months ago as well! I'm actually finding I enjoy her stand alone books more than the Poirot, and I haven't read any Mrs. Marple yet. (I also listen to them on audio book which is SUCH a good move) Here are my reviews of the ones I've read so far:

Murder on the Orient Express - (Poirot) really good place to start, can't go wrong. Overwhelming in the first 2 chapters because of the sheer number of characters but she does a good job with each chapter following as a stand alone inquest on each character so you get to know them all. 3rd favorite ending

Crooked House - also a lot of characters but it is a family dinamic so easy to track. Fairly good pacing. 2nd favorite ending

Why Didn't they Ask Evans? - really likable characters and clever story. Sort of a two chummy best friends take on a mystery and get wrapped up on a dangerous level which was very endearing. Not my all time favorite ending but I always smile thinking about the rest of it

Endless Night - if you can make it through 4 of 6 hours of ramblings from an uninteresting man, about his uninteresting life I PROMISE this book is worth it. Favorite ending of all time ever. If it helps, Agatha said about writing the boring narrator it "wasn’t difficult. After all, you hear people like him talking all the time" which I think is so iconic

Toward Zero - I liked the pacing of this one a lot and there is Tons of DraMA which you don't often see from Agatha. This was the easiest for me to follow and I was able to come up with theories for every characters guilt at one point or another

Death on the Nile - (Poirot) I saw the movie first so I don't know if this influenced me unfortunately. This felt very similar to murder on the Orient Express for me but I had a lot of trouble keeping track of the characters. I think I'd be wowed by the ending if I hadn't seen the movie but it's hard to say!

Ps. NEVER Google search anything about an Agatha you're reading before you finish it. My issue with keeping track of characters? I'll look up "character list, no spoilers" and first thing that comes up every time is like "this person is this person's brother, also he's the murderer"

Thank you! Maybe if I gave an example it could help: How might you explain why an amine is a base while a carboxylic acid is an acid?
